This was a good book. Nothing too special, but engaging and very easy to read.
The problems: This book said "Xavier growled" and "Xavier barked" so many times, I forget he wasn't a dog. Also saying "Bria shook her head" four times within three pages was wild. But I'm just being nitpicky; that was actually kind of funny.
The actual problems: The characters felt extremely flat at times. I feel like Bria and Xavier, despite being the leads and main focus, both had very plain personalities and I couldn't really make out who was who if I just read the dialogue. I honestly feel like the more "exaggerated" characters were written better and more realistically, like Bernie and Cleo. I just feel like a lot of the characters lacked personality and individuality.
I was also a little disappointed by the plot twist. After Bria explained she didn't actually see Derek die, I assumed she had been being stalked since at least Murder in Cabin Nine, but I didn't know who it was. So who it turned out to be wasn't predictable for me, but I honestly wanted more. I didn't just want it to be some crazed fan or costar. I wanted it to be something more unique or bizarre. Again, this might be nitpicky, but that's just my opinion.
The good: Like I said before, this book was very easy to read. It wasn't that long, but it kept me engaged and curious to see what would happen next. I liked a lot of the twists and reveals. Much to my surprise, this was basically half romance, as well. I liked how Bria and Xavier's relationship progressed (although I was tired of them getting interrupted), and the ending was satisfying. I honestly wished it was a bit longer.

I LOVE The West Investigation series, and A Stalker's Prey really took this series to a new level! I also love a second chance romance, and Ms. Richards delivered one of those with deft precision despite all the action on the page.
Bria is an actress who, not unlike most celebrities, has herself a stalker. Originally thinking it was an overzealous fan, she ignored it until she couldn't. That's when she hired West Investigations. The caveat? The man she wants to protect her is the man she used to love, Xavier Nichols.
Xavier didn't expect his former love to walk into his business requesting protection, but when she did, he wondered if it was his chance to win her back. That would have to wait, though. His main concern was finding the person stalking her and putting them behind bars.
The mystery of who the stalker is rolled right along, and so did Bria's and Xavier's romance. I was so pleased to see that West Investigations is expanding and bringing more wonderful stories to this series! If you love second-chance romances, a classic stalking plot with intricate twists and turns to keep you guessing, and a little touch of Hollywood throughout the story, you don't want to miss A Stalker's Prey!
Actress Bria Baker is certain she's being stalked, so she seeks protection and hires the company that includes the man she'd been in love with 15 years earlier, before her career took off. But that bring up a question: can Xavier Nichols, now her bodyguard, keep his feelings--both good and bad--toward her from influencing how he does his job? After all, that job means keeping her safe and maybe even finding out who is stalking her and why.
But what Xavier soon realizes, is that the problems Bria is now facing has lots to do with an earlier role she played in a forgettable flick that was never completed. But how? And why? And what's he going to do about getting to the bottom of that mystery while keeping Bria safe?
It opens with the need for a bodyguard. Stalking. We get right into the story. There is a revelation about midway in the book that should change a lot, but is blown off. Maybe it’s fine. It felt odd like I don’t get what I read. The plots and conflicts are cleaned up in the end.
