At the age of 12 Lindo moved to Madrid, where she studied journalism. She did not get her degree, as she began to work in television and radio as a speaker, actress and scriptwriter. Her first novel was based on one of her fictional radio characters, the madrileño boy Manolito Gafotas, who has become a classic of Spanish children's literature. Manolito is the son of a trucker and lives a humble life in the working-class quarter of Carabanchel. The character was the protagonist of several first-person novels written with a solid style that includes humour, irony and sharp social criticism.
Lindo has also written adult novels and plays; she is the screenwriter of the film La primera noche de mi vida, and collaborated with director Miguel Albadalejo on the screenplays for Manolito Gafotas and Ataque verbal. She also adapted the screenplay Plenilunio from the novel by her husband, Antonio Muñoz Molina.
Ever since her husband Muñoz Molina was appointed director of the Instituto Cervantes of New York, Lindo has lived in New York City. She often writes for the Spanish-language newspaper El País, contributing editorials, and writes freelance work for other magazines and newspapers.
In 1998 Lindo was awarded the Premio Nacional de Literatura Infantil y Juvenil (National Award for Children's and Youth Literature) for her book Los trapos sucios de Manolito Gafotas, and she received the Biblioteca Breve (Tiny Library) Award for her adult novel Una palabra tuya.

i honestly don’t remember too much of it cause it was over the course of 16 weeks i read this book, but it’s cute. i like that i got to learn more slang terms in spanish because of the dialect

Estas series de libros son geniales. Como siempre dice Manolito, me lo paso bestial leyendo estos libros. Aunque estos libros parezcan dirigidos a un público infantil, la verdad es que son bastante difíciles de entender. Se utiliza mucho lenguaje coloquial de España que no encuentras cuando estudias español o lees novelas. Disfruto mucho de cómo Manolito ve el mundo y de cómo describe las cosas más complejas con un estilo muy cómico y divertido. Se los recomiendo a todas las personas que quieran pasar un buen rato recorriendo las calles de Madrid.

Sinceramente, mi top 3 de libros favoritos. Mira que es difícil que un libro te haga reír, pues llorando de la risa terminaba en muchos capítulos. Pura calidad literaria. Muy tierno y lindo (jeje dale Elvira) cómo se narra lo que es el día a día de un niño gafotas desde su perspectiva ingenua y graciosa. Manolito el mejor y el imbécil también.

Ya entiendo por qué me gustaba tanto de pequeña. Me lo leí después de los santos inocentes porque necesitaba un respiro. Me reí mucho leyéndolo.

Maravillosamente genial y divertido! Conocer a Manolito Gafotas y compañía me ha parecido de lo más entrañable y gracioso. Espero poder ver pronto la película ✨

ME HA ENCANTADO!!! Me recuerda mucho a La catastrófica visita al zoo pero de hace 30 años, me he reído muchísimo y adoro la relación de Manolito con su abuelo Nicolás 🥺🤍
