The death of Donald English on 28 August 1998 inflicted a heavy loss on the Christian world. He had retired only three years previously and was expected to continue his effective ministry as a Methodist and ecumenical statesman for many years to come. An outstanding Methodist preacher, his gifts were used in local church ministry, overseas missions and at many significant large-scale events. But Donald English was more than a Methodist. More Than A Methodist pays tribute to the varied aspects of Donald's career. Beginning with his early life in the north-east of England, this biography traces Donald's time working with students, in missionary service in Nigeria and then as a Methodist minister in England, through to Donald the theological teacher, Methodist leader, gifted preacher and ecumenical enthusiast. There are also chapters on his international ministry. Combining personal memories with details drawn from research, this study tells the story of the life and ministry of a man who will be remembered as more than a Methodist.
