Windows Ce 3.0 System Programming

Rate this book
WinCE is the palmtop operating system from Microsoft. It is a severely cut-down version of Windows which offers basic Windows functions familiar to PC users. It often comes inclusive of bespoke versions of Word, Excel, Outlook etc, which are also restricted, but functionally similar to PC versions. WinCE has an API and has ( mostly ) COM as it is building block. WinCE applications have to be very small, very memory efficient and take advantage of the fine tuning available from using C, C++ and Assembly language in development. This book is about programming WinCE at the granular level. It is about using the WinCE operating system as an embedded tool -- that is, as a raw, small operating environment that can handle very specific tasks. These tasks may well have been accomplished by dedicated chips, but with WinCE, a chip-like development focus can be had together with easier maintainability, easier bug fixing and the opportunity to offer an interface. WinCE as a RTOS ( real time op system ) The book will be a complete examination of the guts of WinCE and how to address them -- but will take this further and bring granular knowledge to regular WinCE SDK application development. This is bottom-up development for WinCE apps. It is about coal-face development for WinCE using C++ and occasionally ASM.
