Brilliant collection of short stories! It lured me in with tales of deep sea exploration, luminescent critters and scary things! The stories transitioned more towards science, warfare, and scavenging, but remained captivating.
I found this book to be very entertaining while I was struggling to get used to using my apnea equipment. I would get all set up with the head harness on and then attach the breathing mask to the air pressure machine. Out would come the book, and I would imagine myself diving with the writers in the book. Some how the stories about dying didn't bother me, but the fascination of the divers about the wonders in the deep water caught my imagination. I was hooked on hearing more about it. I've taken diving lessons, but didn't take the final free dive, so I understood the wonderful feeling of freedom when you are under water. The weightlessness, the forgotten concerns of everyday life added to the joy of it. I never learned much about the world wars in school and this book taught me something about that as well. As a diversion, this was great for me, but it may not be so interesting to others.
