This title is one of the “Technology 360” series. It begins with a timeline of important dates in the history of roller coasters. Subsequent chapters cover the appeal of roller coasters, conception and development of new rides, the science involved in their design and construction, and their psychological and physiological effects on the human brain. It is a well-researched tome enhanced by fact boxes, drawings, charts and graphs, color photographs of famous coasters, and lots of statistics in appropriately titled “Bits & Bytes” boxes. Back matter includes source notes, glossary, bibliography, websites and index. The text-heavy book will have limited appeal unless you have numerous coaster-philes among your patrons or students eager to do research on the topic. Physics teachers might find the title a useful resource for gravity, force and energy illustrations. Order if needed.
