Throws For Strikers looks at the basic throws that were once commonly practised in striking systems such as karate, boxing and taekwondo. In addition to providing instructions on the throws themselves, this book also covers the fundamental principles that apply to all throws, includes practice drills that will enable the reader to develop competance in live situations, and explains what to do should a throw go wrong and you end up on the ground.
This was definitely a good read, where the author discusses how throws and sweeps have been an integral part of so-called striking arts (not because that's all they do, but because that's the primary focus of the art). He spends plenty of time talking about the history of those striking arts, especially boxing, demonstrating how they used to have more throws and sweeps than they do now. He even spends time discussing the various types of throws and sweeps, on a general basis. The only thing I would have liked to have seen more of, since this is why I got the book in the first place, is examples from katas where a sweep or throw is a possible application. That said, it was still a very good book.
