For more than 10 years, The Good Fork has been one of Brooklyn’s favorite restaurants. It’s a neighborhood spot that offers a rare treat in the crowded, slick New York food a restaurant that feels like home. Chef Sohui Kim and her husband live down the block, blurring the lines between their kitchen at home and the restaurant kitchen. The Good Fork Cookbook is packed with Kim’s recipes for flavorful, globally inspired cuisine that a home cook can make any night of the week. Her influences and techniques range from French and Italian to American and Korean, but every dish is comforting, Pork Dumplings; Korean-Style Steak and Eggs with Kimchee Rice and Fried Eggs; Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Waffles; and more. The Good Fork Cookbook shares the recipes that made The Good Fork Brooklyn’s favorite mom-and-pop shop.
A wonderful cookbook from popular NYC restaurant The Good Fork. Full of yummy recipes that are bursting with flavour and easy to follow. With great photos and lovely stories scattered throughout adding to the charm of this must have cookbook.
Of all the cuisines I haven't tried to cook, Korean food is high up on that list and I think that Good Fork really sparked my interest in trying some recipes and also gives a great list of Korean staples that I wasn't familiar with (and I hope that I can find in my area). It's a personal book that gives insight into Chef Kim as a person and as a chef. It's also not just limited to Korean food - there are several takes on cuisines that I'd be interested in cooking (hopefully it'll be a successful attempt!). The photos are lovely and mouthwatering! Some recipes seem a bit too intense for a short turnaround time, but it's okay because it's worth it!
I had no idea what to expect. An eclectic mix of recipes, many with Korean flavors adding interest to classic dishes. The last section is traditional Korean, and that was my favorite part-- it was like the writing came to life. I can't say I would try many recipes outside of that last section, but it's a nice survey cookbook if you're looking for straightforward with a twist.
