Dr. Paulson's newest book, The The Political Conversation Your Mother Told You Never to Have, chronicles a dinner conversation between two couples from different parties and background as they explore a political conversation their mother never wanted them to have. There is no name calling, just two couples trying to address issues impacting a critical choice—Who will I vote for in the election this November? No boring position papers in this book—just straight talk over dinner about political issues that make a difference for America. The book allows you to pull up a chair to the dinner and listen in! When asked to explain why they vote Republican, the Republican couple shares the Pillars of Republican Values—Tax relief, smaller government, educational excellence and the American Dream. They share how America’s strong military and free market capitalism are critical to lasting world peace. Both couples struggle with the Tough Three —Abortion, healthcare and the immigration challenge. There is even a self-test to identify what you believe on the values that separate Republicans and Democrats.
This has to be the most blatant twisting of logic ever. Maybe because it is 10 years old, but much of the information provided in the book is a lie. Supposably it a book about two couples separated by party lines talking, but it reads more like a republican lecturing democrats. Also, many democratic platforms are co-opted as Republican. Furthermore, the so-called Democrats conceded essentially every point to the republican couple. The argument that those who are poor are poor because government handouts mean they don't bother working is ridiculous. Many poor folks work and are unable to cover their bills. Then it argues that poor people expect to high a quality of living with their TVs and microwaves. Abortion is also touched on with both women and the republican man finding it morally objectionable. They argue that abortion is dangerous (ignoring that about 14% of pregnancies have complications) and they equate the morning after pill to an abortion (note:the morning after pill does not end a pregnancy it prevents it from happening).
