Enjoyed this picture in time of what a St. Bernard's teacher experianced in the 1970s and 1980s. Mr. Bazarini grew on me with time. I liked it when he took the students to the racetrack, and the story on alimony was funny. While true in some cases, I don't think the answer to every question is "your kid will be fine, calm down." The book rang true to me.
"The task of the adult is to awaken the child, not blame him." A charming, anecdotal and occasionally surprising rumination from a teacher of fourth grade boys. A male friend of mine recommended this as the most accurate and sensitive portrayal of being a boy. There are lots of moments of grace: opportunities for a teacher or adult to take the time to try to connect with a child. I found it very humanizing and inspiring. Their are some children I work with that frustrate me and now I have a much improved and far less selfish attitude towards them. Thank you Mr. Bazarini
