This is a major pictorial work about the Romanov Dynasty, the supreme rulers of Russia for over 300 years, with special emphasis on the life of Nicholas II, the last Tzar. Moreover, it is an unsurpassed photographic record of the lives of the last reigning members of the Russian Royal family. With many never before published photographs included, this book is sure to delight those interested in the Russian Royal family at the time of the Russian Revolution.
So far...I love these kinds of books so I would have wanted to give it a much higher rating than I have. Writing is very simplistic but perhaps that is a result of the translation. Pictures are good, as anything from the period of Imperial Russia is worth seeing. Lots of pictures of celebrations for the 300th ANNIVERSARY of the Dynasty and lots of pictures of Nicholas at the front in WWI with his troops. I am glad I got a low priced copy.
This is a strange little book that, although informative, is too peculiar to be worth it. Less a book about Russia's last Tsar and more like a lengthy paper an enterprising fifth grader might have written about the entire Romanov dynasty, it seems to be an indifferently translated work at best. The information is sketchy, abrupt, and easy learned elsewhere; while the pictures are nice, and dated, occasionally there seem to be some mistakes in the dating. Transliteration is very strange in places, and an index or table of contents are completely lacking.
