I like reading about where I am – currently, Brooklyn, NY! Some things in the book are outdated, but it was still neat to read about, for instance, a beloved, family-run bookshop (BookCourt) that is no longer here. It was also neat to read what the people have to say about Brooklyn, and to learn the history about some of the neighborhoods, from Park Slope to Crown Heights, from Bed-Stuy to Bushwick, or about the 1977 NY City Blackout, or how Duke Ellington's "Take the A Train" inspired an avalanche of poor Blacks into Bed-Stuy, where I am staying.

I received this as a gift, and it was surprisingly charming. Mix of recommendations (good for residents), literature, essays, history, music, maps and art.
