The Scorsese Connection

Rate this book
Martin Scorsese's films ignite connections, illuminating memories and moments from other movie-going experiences. This daring book explores the way he "remakes" other movies ( Raging Bull replays The Red Shoes; Taxi Driver mirrors The Searchers) and how we absorb and make sense of these films.

I remember reading this in college, just as I started to really see what was out there in movie-world beyond the immediate blockbuster. It struck me how there could have been an entire academic study dedicated to a single director. No kidding. And it was also interesting how the author took her own personal experiences with paranoia and hyperviolence as an admitted inspiration for looking into the films (at least up to the 90's or so) of Martin Scorsese, who certainly isn't like that as a person but is nevertheless fascinated by it.
