It could seem a bit quaint today, but when I first read it several years ago, it was one of the first times I had seen a socio-cultural analysis on the effect of Internet-mediated communications on the propagation of information. Today, I think there is more for this book to offer in terms of a foundation for unpacking the social, political, and ultimately economic implications of Web 2.0 and UGC phenomena. Although there's a wider breadth of more thorough and current analysis today, I would consider this book basic reading for anyone wanting a firm understanding of media theory regarding the Internet.
