L A COTTON is USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of over forty mature young adult and new adult novels, LA COTTON is happiest writing the kind of books she loves to read: addictive stories full of teenage angst, tension, twists and turns.
Home is a small town in the middle of England where she currently juggles being a full-time writer with being a mother/referee to two little people. In her spare time (and when she’s not camped out in front of the laptop) you’ll most likely find LA immersed in a book, escaping the chaos that is life.

OH MY HEART! LA Cotton brings out all the feelings in this meaningful and unexpected first love romance. Tenderly told and beautifully emotive, Missed Notes is a pitch-perfect and poignant story about finding hope and love in the midst of uncertainty. A story so sweetly swoony, so epically romantic, so unapologetically uplifting that it held my heart in its hands completely. With the dreamiest Rixon hero to date and a heroine both gentle and mighty, hands down LA Cotton has delivered her most charming and endearing Rixon story of the series. I could not adore this couple or their story more- my heart is overflowing.
I don’t want to give too much away, but if you’ve read the rest of this series, you already know that there is clearly something going on with Sofia. Your deductions are likely correct- LA Cotton doesn’t leave us in the dark for long. That’s not the surprise of this book- no, the release surprise, is just how gosh darn sweet and swoony it is. This couple has perhaps one of the most challenging paths forward of any in the series- and the brother’s best friend issue they also have doesn’t even compare. Confronting mortality, an unclear future, having your entire existence flipped on its head- that’s what these two face. But LA Cotton give us the best twist of all- the LOVE story isn’t complicated, it’s not painful or overly angst or particularly clouded. Because Cole is the most amazing of book boyfriends- the all in, endless unconditional love, patient and selfless kind. Oh, it takes a minute for him to get it right- but once he does, he is unwavering. While we see the world around them crumble, we get to marvel at them facing it TOGETHER. And what a beautiful story it is- for love to be easy, restorative, and safe when nothing about your being is any of those things. And I loved that dynamic, the juxtaposition of both of them struggling with their futures (for different but painful reasons) with the sincerity and ease of them falling into each other. It’s best friends to lovers swoony perfection. I adored them so hard, and the depth of their love, even at such a young age, moved my heart.
I LOVED both of these characters so hard. Sofia's resilience and selfless need to protect the happiness of those around her was so relatable, both heart-wrenching and endearing. She is SUCH a beautiful soul, and I admired her and cherished being in her mind. The courage and maturity she demonstrated, despite facing down a situation so scary and life-altering, made her such a powerful heroine. And COLE- MY GOD. SWOON. I can not get over how amazing he is. Of course, when someone you love is facing something really hard, it impacts you too. But Cole prioritizes Sofia and her needs always, even when he's going through his own things. I loved his devotion, their communication, the gentle authenticity and care they had for each other. Butterflies left and right.
LA Cotton has taken perhaps her most tragic of plotlines, one of her most heavy stories, and given it so much light and hope and heart. All of all the love stories in the series, it’s the most pure and easiest to find- its all the challenges they face that are the real obstacle. But anything is possible when you have love. One of my tops of the series and one of my all time favs from LA!
This is beautiful, emotional and true love all the way.
I absolutely love the Rixon series and I’d read any L.A. Cotton writes however this isn’t usually the type of book I would normally read. I like happy go lucky and this was deep. It’s beautiful and heartfelt.
Sofia Bennet has been ignoring the signs something is wrong. Her brother’s best friend Cole knows something isn’t right. He’s had a crush on Sofia for a long time and always thought she was off limits. That doesn’t mean he isn’t watching her. When something happens to Sofia can Cole finally realise tomorrow isn’t the day to start dreaming when you have the reality of today.
I like the beginning of the Missed Notes. The theme of brother's best friend has a forbidden vibe to it. Alas Miss Cotton putting more twist into the story. The story is more focus on Sophia.
The more I learned about Sophia, the more I become un symphatic toward her. Her so called secret is something she hide in order to get more drama/ attention.
Cole is sweatheart. I think he deserves a heroine much to his match.
"Everyone knew things had the potential to get messy when you hooked up with your brother's best friend."
This was a very emotional and difficult ride!!! I adore Rixon High's couples very much and all of them had serious challenges ahead of them before they will become an item, but Sofia and Cole's story was the most difficult of them all!!! If you have read the previous books, you will know by now that something is happening with Sofia Bennett and the author doesn't leaving us hanging for too long!!! The surprise in here is Cole, Sofia's brother's best friend and her secret crush who is determined to be by her side no matter what!!!
"This, us, it has disaster written all over it."
Honestly, I don't want to tell you much for this story!!! We could feel in the previous books that something was brewing between Cole and Sofia and the only logical thing was that the only obstacle between them would be Aaron, Sofia's brother and Cole's best friend... but Lianne took us on a different journey... A journey full of heartbreak, a very demanding one... These two had to weaponize themselves with strength and courage and their love was the ultimate weapon...
"Denial was my friend. And truth... truth was my enemy."
It is senior year and Sofia was imagining her life differently... But her life is taking a big, scary turn to the unknown and she is trying to view life differently... She wants to protect her loved ones and even though, she is craving Cole's affection, she doesn't want to drag him down with her... But he is so darn persistent and eventually... he is what she really needs... Cole has lots of things to deal with... The pressure from his father is too big when his dreams are different... At the same time, Sofia Bennett is in his reach and he wants to fight for her... For her, he could do anything!!! Even to sacrifice his own dreams and hopes, cause she is the biggest dream of all!!!
"It wasn't supposed to happen, and yet, here we were. Falling hopelessly, recklessly in love."
I have loved this couple very much!!! Sofia was unlucky and she was breaking my heart, but she was a strong girl and she had the most powerful team by her side!!! Cole was dreamy and so selfless... Honestly, I was this close to fall for this guy!!! These two were perfect together and they had to fight the biggest battle of their lives... Will they succeed???
"How are you so calm about all of this?" "Because that's my job, isn't it? To be your anchor. To be your life raft when things get too stormy."
Honestly, I am going to miss the second generation of Rixon Raiders!!! I have fallen for each couple individually and I had beautiful time along their side!!! Can not wait for more!!!!
"Love didn't play by any set of rules."
**I received an ARC for the exchange of an honest review**
Oh God, this is the best book in the series. I loved EVERYTHING about it; the perfect level of angst, the feels, the most beautiful epic love ever, and the sense of family, our author really knocked it out of the park here!!
This is Sofia and Coles story, and all while I was reading Poppy and Aaron's book, the little nuggets of Sofia and Cole left me wanting their book right then, but oh my gosh this was so worth the wait. Cole and Sofia have such a road ahead of them, but instead of taking the contrived route, Cole was all in from the get go and let me tell you -- the way he loved his girl brought tears to my eyes on multiple occasions. He's literally the perfect boyfriend, and I loved that Sofia had him in her corner with all she was going through.
If you've read the rest of the series, you probably know or have an inkling as to what the plot will be about, but it's still worth reading. It's heartbreaking and beautiful all at once, and I honestly loved every minute of it. Don't miss out on this epic romance!!
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions **
My favourite Rixon book ever. Cole has just overtaken the OG Raiders with his swoony heartfelt actions and that was a very hard feat. He was the epitome of everything you look for in a book boyfriend.
The last 25% of this book was SO emotional and I didn’t think I was going to make it to the end because I had a dreadful feeling in my stomach but I knew La Cotton wouldn’t steer us wrong.
Aaron and Cole’s friendship just about killed me off. There was one scene with them where I just sat and sobbed so thanks for that La Cotton. 🙄😂
I have said this many times but I will say it again until everybody starts listening. If you love sports romances READ THIS SERIES If you love high school romances READ THIS SERIES If you love friendship groups who are ride or die family READ THIS SERIES
Jase, Cam and Asher as parents is one of the funniest, heartbreaking, entertaining things I have ever read and I’ll never get enough of them.
This book…my heart….I absolutely loved Sofia and Cole’s story. It was beautiful and emotional from start to finish.
Sofia’s world is turned upside down her senior year of high school. While all her friends are enjoying everything their final year of high school has to bring, her future is completely up in the air. Cole is the star quarterback, he is working hard to follow in his own dreams, versus living the dreams of his father. Cole and Sofia have a connection and chemistry, however, the fact that Cole’s best friend is also Sofia’s twin brother and her future up in the air she continues to push him away, but Cole’s persistent and isn’t going to just let her shut him out.
I loved the two of them together. I love that Cole never gave up when it came to Sofia, even though she didn’t make it easy on him at times. Cole instantly became her rock through everything and a part of her support system, along with her family. Cole wasn’t the only one who was supportive. I love that despite everything Sofia was going through, she was supportive of Cole and his dreams. Their journey wasn’t always easy, it was full of a lots of ups and downs, and pain, but it was truly beautiful.
If you’re looking for an angsty, emotional, brothers best friend, sports romance this is one to check out.
Addictive! Pretty much did in one sitting as totally unputdownable.
These 2 blew my mind, the attraction and chemistry was strong, but with something Sofia going through she pushes everyone including Cole away, but he is determined.
This broke me in ways I was not expecting, I don’t often cry but this got me.
This is one of my favourite series/families and this did not disappoint.
LA Cotton has brought me to my knees again. If I ever thought that Lianne had bring all the YA angst in previous books, I was wrong. Missed Notes is a painfully beautiful story.
I cannot express myself right now. Any words are enough accurate to describe perfection of Sofia & Cole's story. We see known faces, we see them happy - Raiders for the win, like always???? Nope, this time Lianne had broken my heart into million pieces. Sofia and Cole's story is like an epic conclusion of this series, where love and family are the highest value in life.
I won't lie, this book was a big challenge for me, because personal reasons, but I survived, and I loved every single moment of this adventure. Sofia, Cole and Bennetts delivering emotions and dramatic moments, but in breathtaking way.
Where's love, there's always place for hope. Missed Notes is phenomenal - please read it. Sofia and Cole deserves everything.
Sofia and Cole story was beautifully written. The way L. A. Cotton ripped out my heart stomped on it and put it back together was magical. The love, the friendship and loyalty in this story just melted my heart.
As all the other books in this series you get all the family connections, friends and crazy banter. This book though you get to see the fight, support and love they all have for each other.
“May they always play hard… fight hard… love hard.”
This quote from the book is perfect for this story. Cole and Sofia story is one that will stick with you and you will remember. Definitely be put on my reread list.
Oh boy, what a series finale! I had no idea what was in store for these two! They had such a hard journey but oh man it was beautiful. Watching these two together was so sweet.
Cole was just freaking incredible. He instantly became one of my fav heroes in this series. He was just so sweet and understanding. He went above and beyond for Sofia. Although she was going through something so hard, she had him (and her whole family) beside her and it was beautiful to watch their love, their bonds and just how much they all cared for each other.
Honestly, this was an incredible ‘ending’ to this series. And I say ‘ending’ in inverted commas because I’m pretty sure we’re getting an epilogue novel like we did for the first generation series, which I’m super stoked for!
And the epilogue in this book also had me all up in my feels. I loved watching Asher, Jason and Cameron as parents!! The scenes where they are all together reminiscing always gets me so so emotional. I love those scenes and Lianne does them so well.

I am all up in my feels after this book! I didn’t expect Sofia and Cole’s story to shred me as bad as it did but whoa this story is a very beautiful, heart wrenching story about life, family and seizing the opportunities you can while you can!
I have to state this before anything else, SOFIA IS A BAD***! This girl is fierce and a fighter like no other! I was mesmerized by her strength and so many times I wanted to just wrap her in my arms and hug her tight!! But she has Cole and boy Cole doesn’t give up and he shows up time and time again!
I absolutely love this family because let’s be honest if you have read since the first generation you know that these are friends that are family in aspects of the word (maybe minus blood but still)!! The love runs deep and it’s one of the reasons why I love this series and the one before so much!!
Rixon has become a home away from home and this book really solidified my love for this fictional place and the beautiful people in it!
5 MISSED NOTES STARS!! Oh my....my heart has been cracked, broken and glued back together. Sofia and Cole's story was music to my ears with all the feels and beautiful writing from this author. I can't wait for the next book in this series.
This book definitely did not miss the mark. It is my absolute fave in the Rixon High series. LA Cotton penned an unputdownable, beautiful read. My attention was held captive by Cole and Sofia’s journey. I was so addicted by every-effing-thing and I seriously can’t rave about this book enough. This is a must read, 5 plus star book of all the epic things we love about this authors writing!
I can't believe the Rixon High series is coming to an end 😢 but Missed Notes was such a beautiful, heartbreaking and emotional story. It follows Sofia and Cole, her twin brother's best friend. They have always been close to each other and have shared a mutual attraction, but overwhelming news is about to change Sofia's life. She's going to shut down while Cole does everything in his power to support her and be there for her.
L.A. Cotton is one of my favorite authors, and I am always instantly engrossed in her stories and characters' journeys, and Missed Notes was no exception! With the crumbs we had in Aaron and Poppy's book, I knew this was going to be an emotional story, and it didn't miss, the tears flowed. Sofia and Cole are incredible, brave, strong characters who are always there to support each other through thick and thin.
With everything that happened to her, Sofia remained very selfless. All she wanted to do was protect her friends and family from what was going on, but she also fought very hard to get better. As for Cole, he was the perfect book boyfriend material, and I fell in love with him! He was patient and caring with Sofia, and he always wanted to make her feel better. Cole had issues with his family regarding his future, but he was able to work through them with Sofia and her family. I loved that he had people who supported him and wanted the best for him!
Their relationship was very sweet, and it was great to see how comfortable they were with each other. It had just begun, but you could feel that they already shared a deep and unbreakable connection. Aaron, Sofia's twin brother and Cole's best friend, was a little annoyed by their relationship, but I'm glad that wasn't a big drama in the book. Compared to the rest of the series, there wasn't as much drama, and Missed Notes focused mostly on Sofia and her health, and her relationship with Cole, which I appreciated.
The ending with all the characters from both series was so cute, and I'm glad the author decided to write an epilogue book for them because I love them so much, and I'm not ready to say goodbye just yet!

I always have extremely high expectations when I start a novel penned by L.A. Cotton as she writes the most incredible stories. Missed Notes did not in any way disappoint.
I adore this series – it’s up there with my favourites. I love being in Rixon with the Ford, Chase and Bennet families, and I dread the day when the author tells us there will be no more. Missed Notes is Sofia Bennet and Cole Kandon’s story and it is a must-read!
I’d advise you to have tissues close at hand whilst reading this narrative as I found it to be an emotional story. Sofia and Cole begin a relationship just when life has taken an unexpected and devastating turn for Sofia. I loved watching their love develop throughout this narrative and enjoyed witnessing their time together. I know without any doubt that Cole is going to steal your heart!!
I loved seeing all of Sofia’s close circle supporting her - and each other - going the extra mile to be there whenever needed. I wouldn’t have expected anything less of course, but it was wonderful to see everyone doing what they do best. There are so many wonderful moments throughout the book that put a smile on my face. In my opinion, this novel has been penned perfectly to bring out many different emotions in the reader.
I am hoping that you are able to go into Missed Notes blind and experience this incredible story without any prior knowledge of Sofia and Cole’s journey. They both face difficult situations that requires them to fight for their futures, and you will be rooting for them all the way! If real life had allowed I would have devoured this story in one sitting as I found it to be addictive and unputdownable.
Oh my, I was not ready for how much I was going to love Cole! I'm sorry book boyfriends but y'all need to move aside and let this man through because he's EVERYTHING 🥰 and I also found I wasn't jealous of Sofia like I normally am 😂 I was rooting for her because damn does she deserve the most amazing guy!
We could all see the signs between Sofia and Cole in the previous books, the tension, the chemistry, but what I imaged their story was going to be was NOTHING compared to this masterpiece Lianne has written for us.
It takes real talent to take a sensitive and emotional subject and be able to weave it into such a beautiful, inspirational story, and Lianne has done it to perfection 😍
We all knew this was going to be heartbreaking, but Lianne ripped my heart out, tore it up into tiny pieces, then glued it back together again all within the pages of this book! And I didn't realise how much I NEEDED this book right now. I'm not saying I'm going through anything close to what poor Sofia is, but my god this book hit hard with me and I feel so much more myself for reading it, so thank you Lianne, for unintentionally being EXACTLY what I needed right now!
Sofia and Cole's story was beautifully written, I cried, I laughed, I cried some more, I could have sworn I was there right beside these characters taking each and every step with them! 🖤
Lianne brought the big guns out with this one and she did a great job with it. She weaved some heart breaking, ugly cry parts with the heart warming and humour that made this one hell of a page turner. Alcohol, ice-cream and tissues will be required but it will be worth it all.
The journey Sofia and Cole went through was quite the rollar-coaster. These two were perfect together and i was rooting for them from the beginning.
I honestly think this was my favourite book from the series so far and I have loved this series. There is so much I want to rave about but I don't want to give it away as honestly you need to experience this one for yourself.
I was gifted a copy of this book from the Author. This is my honest opinion
Missed Notes (Rixon High #5) is a brother’s best friend addictive romance. A beautiful deep seeded heartbreaking lovestory. Absolutely loved it. Character's are multi-dimensional and supporting character's are just what this story needed. Excellent read. Highly recommend, excellent writing style.
It was like Coach had said, football was just a game. But Sofia.. Well, she was the other half of my soul.
This story has my whole heart! I don’t even know how to describe it… Cole and Sophia are the end game, no question asked! The chemistry, the passion and all the feelings really played a number on me. I don’t think l’ll get over this story so soon. This has definitely a lot of emotions, a lot to digest , it’s just too much. Also we got to have a pov with the original Rixon Boys Ash, Jase and Cameron all together again remembering and looking forward at the future is just what I needed! I won’t spoiler anything, but you should definitely buckle up because this is gonna be a ride full of emotions that won’t be easy to handle!
I gave it absolutely 5 stars I hope you’ll it like I did!
Beautiful story about hopes and dreams and surpassing obstacles. Sofia is at the pinnacle of her life, senior year in high school, with her life before her, lots of possibilities and plans, when she learns devastating news about her health. Her world comes tumbling down, and she takes time to process it all.
Through all her travails, she has her parents to support her, and Cole, the young man she has been crushing on. Cole is her twin brother’s best friend, so to be together would be to break bro code, and yet, Cole is determined to be with this girl he’s very much into, and even more when he learns her news.
LA Cotton is a gifted author writing YA, she does a great job to portray their insecurities and their growing concerns about their future and life choices. Sofia deals with fears at the same time she wants to hide her symptoms to prevent pain in her twin Aaron and parents. Cole deals with a dominant father who wants to control his future where his choices point elsewhere.
And in the midst of all this, there’s the devotion Cole feels towards Sofia, his determination to be with her through all her process and show her she’s the one for him. We read Sofia’s process, how she wants to hide from the truth, then face it, try to save her family from despair, then buckle up and start dealing. Aaron, whom we met early on in the series, is a tad dramatical, very given to histrionics at all moments, but in the moment of truth, he’s a pillar of support to his twin sister.
It was a lovely read, wonderful characters, some happy, some sad, wonderful decisions made by all, and youthful sexy times with teenagers finding how to express their sensuality. I found it funny when the fathers of this group of friends react to their children’s sexy adventures scandalized and their wives remind them they were like that and sometimes worse at their age. Fun times and a wonderful story!
Sofia and Cole's story is such a beautifully written book. The author takes the reader on one heck of a journey with this couple. The previous books had angst in them however this one tops them all .
This is a tender first love story and all the feelings associated with it. It was easy to get lost in the drama that surrounds them. The last book hinted at conflict between them and now all those questions I had were answered. One of my favourite things about this series is the bond between the friends and the families and it is needed more than ever now. I enjoyed the commitment from Cole, for a young guy he sure is romantic. The way he supports encourages and loves her will have you swooning. Sofia is so strong her determination and tenacity shines through. I loved that everyone let her make her own decisions and realised that she needed that control even if they didn't always agree. Love that we always get to catch up with where the other couples are in their lives.
The epilogue has one of my favourite scenes with all the dads reminiscing over beers I LOVE those guys. I know the end for this series is coming and I'm not sure that I'm ready.
My poor heart will never be the same after this book!!
I tearful eyes so many many times, I have never felt so invested in a book til reading Sofia and Cole. This was my first read of this series and I’m must say my heart is utterly shattered and then put back together.
I will never understand why I tournament myself and I read a book while I’m at work but that is not suggested with this one I had no explanation for my tears other than I’m reading a book.
This book will forever be a part of me now, as seeing I can’t get it out of my head. I shared dms with a friend saying F this book. Not cause it was bad it just has you emotional feelings about it!
This is my absolute favorite book out of this series it’s emotional heart clenching and angsty ride L.A. Cotton penned a beautiful story. This whole series is amazing but this book is a epic once in a lifetime love story! The devastation the heartache the hope the love this book was so addicting it was absolutely EPIC in every way !
Bring on the water works!!!! Don't even start this book without some tissues or a couple rolls of tp by your side. Sofia and Cole's story is here and it is going to emotionally destroy you and put you back together.
Can I just say WOW. Cotton did not disappoint. Cole and Sofia are amazing. My heart broke for them, skipped a beat for them. I felt every emotion with them. Cole and Sofia have always had a special relationship, even if he was best friends with her brother, but when secrets are told, discovered, Sofia try to push Cole away, for one she feels it's best for both but Cole refuses to go away. These two characters show so much vulnerability, courage, love and commitment. Loved this book.
What a rollercoaster of emotions! Sofia and Cole are endgame! You really feel it from the first page onwards. Their story is without a doubt an emotional one! I did not expect Sofia to be sick and to be Cole such a sweetheart and be as involved and caring as he is. He‘s a perfect bookboyfriend!
I can‘t believe that we‘re already at the end of this series. It was a really great one and I‘m sad to leave Rixon and our Raiders.
Cole and Sofias story was absolutely breathtaking and emotional! I couldn't get enough of them. I loved every minute of this amazing story. There were times I cried like a baby. So freaking good!
