It's almost the first day of first grade, and Michael can't wait. That is, until he discovers that his puppy, Cookie, can't join him. But when he learns that bringing Cookie means she wouldn't be just his anymore, he decides it's better if she stays home.

Margaret McNamara is the Christopher Award–winning author of more than two dozen books for young readers, including the Robin Hill School series. The Fairy Bell Sisters series is inspired not only by her love of the classic sisterhood novel Little Women but by her own experiences growing up with older sisters (and a baby brother). Margaret and her family live in New York City, but they spend part of their summer on an island in Maine very much like Sheepskerry Island.

This book talks about a boy name Micheal who started first day in first grade. All summer long Michael was playing with his dog name Cookie. He loved his dog so much and want to take his dog to school with him. His mom wouldn't allow him to and it makes him sad. His teacher saw his dog and pet his dog. His mom told Michael to take his dog home. He had a good day at school and when he came home his dog ran to him and was so excited to see him. This book shows relationship between human and animals. It is good to teach children who have pet and told them that pet cannot be in school and that they belongs at home.

I'm trying to boost my Kindergartener's confidence in her reading skills, so I'm borrowing all kinds of "Level" books for her to practice her reading. For some reason, she's eager to read during the day, but during bedtime storytime, she just wants me to read. I usually let it go, because she does read a lot during the day, but when I get these books, she sometimes obliges me with a page or two.

This is a simple story of a boy and his dog. It's one of many stories in the Robin Hill School series by Margaret McNamara and Mike Gordon. The boy and dog are always together and the boy is sad when his pup can't join him at school. Simple, direct narrative and colorful, expressive illustrations - both are great for helping children get enthused about books.

We picked this book up from our public library.

Very cute book and we loved the illustrations that were done by Mik Gordon.
You have this boy who has spent all summer with his dog, only to go to start school and find out he can not have his dog with him. When he gets told that the Cookie can belong to the whole school Michael didn't like that idea.
Yes he missed her but she was waiting on him when he got home which was really sweet. This book would be great for those starting school or even going back after having a fun summer. As we know that children will miss doing certain things or miss certain people or animals. It helps them understand that you will get to come home after school and see that animal or person.

Some of my students miss their mom, dad, sister, brother, dog, cat, etc. when they come to school. We read this book and then discuss how all will be safe and waiting for us when we get home from school. The students agree that it's best that they don't come with us to school. This book also reminds me of my first day of kindergarten and all the way to college. There were many times that I missed my family, etc. I share that information with the children.
