"Alina Clover thought being a receptionist for the Adventurers Guild would be her ticket to the good life...but her dream gig turns into an overtime nightmare whenever adventurers get stuck clearing a dungeon. To save herself from paperwork, Alina turns to the simplest solution at hand-beating down the monsters herself!
A mysterious adventurer showing up out of nowhere, soloing the boss, then disappearing without taking credit is bound to create rumors, and Alina's treasured job forbids side hustles. So there might be trouble when the leader of the Silver Sword party discovers her secret...! "
Light novels and their ridiculously long titles; this one is no exception to that. :|
Having said that though, this was thoroughly enjoyable. Set in a fantasy realm, where adventuring parties and fighting off hordes of monsters is the norm, this series features a receptionist who on first glance appears completely helpless. This image however, belies an overpowered (though reluctant hero).
As trope-heavy as it may be (i.e., the overpowered protagonist, who possesses impossible strength or powers), this is still a really fun read, as our protagonist, Alina, slowly gets drawn into a world that she's actively fighting against joining.
I'm reading the light novel right now, and it appears to be just as interesting as the manga.
The first volume of a manga based on the light novel of the same name. Alina is a guild receptionist who is sick and tired of overtime at her job, and the only way to fix that is? To kill the dungeon bosses that are causing all the adventurers to demand quests, of course!
I usually don't rate Manga, as though I find the story intriguing, that is only half of what makes manga special, and I do not feel apt enough to rate based on illustrations. This is because everyone has different tastes in what they like, and I never want to be one that sways a person away from a manga for that. So, for illustration alone, it will stay unrated.
However, for the story, this was a wonderful take on "overpowered protagonist hides who they are" and quite reminiscent to many other manga, manhwa, and anime that is popular right now. Alina is the type of protagonist that I enjoy quite a bit, a petite girl with great power, and her need to remove over time and just live a comfortable life is so relatable. There are many funny moments that kept me chuckling throughout the book without making it too kitschy and over-comical. Therefore, reader the story, I rate it a 5 ⭐️
I’d thought I was getting a kindle version of the light novel, but it turned out the kindle version on the light novel page was for the manga. That said, other than that, I’m glad I got this. It’s a fun story and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens in volume 2. I will still try to get a kindle version of the light novel, but this is good.
The main is an overworked receptionist who just wants to go home on time and enjoy the house she got a loan for with the stable earnings from her job. Things go awry, as they so often do, and she has to go lay some smack down on some dungeon bosses to make this happen while not getting caught, because guild employees can’t have side jobs. Unfortunately, the leader of a party she had to ‘rescue’ to make them stop dragging their feet on a boss accidentally saw her face and wants her to join their party. So goes volume 1 of the manga. I have no doubt volume 2 will be interesting as well. :)
Alina has a cushy government job. As a guild receptionist she sends adventurers out to dungeons to take down monsters. But when a flame dragon has the adventurers stumped it means more monsters spawned, more adventurers at the guild, and more overtime work for Alina. And that absolutely can’t stand! But when Alina solos the dragon she isn’t careful enough and the leader of the Silver Sword guild catches a glimpse of her face. From the moment on he wants nothing more but for her to join the guild.
But Alina is a girl after my own heart. She wants nothing more than to put in her hours and go home and be cozy. Jade hanging around her can only cause problems. Bring more attention to her and potentially get her fired! And this is all before Alina’s least favorite customer takes out her precious house in a fight.
This is basically a cozy dungeon crawling manga with little dungeon crawling more just the very beginning of the dungeon adventure. Looking forward to seeing how Alina gets out of this guild pickle now that she has shown herself.
Alina Clover is a receptionist who assigns quests to interested guilds and adventurers, but when one of the dungeon bosses stalls progress by going undefeated for too long, it causes Alina to constantly have to work overtime. Tired of this, Alina decides to take matters into her own hands and defeat the boss herself. The problem is, receptionists are not allowed a second job—especially not as an adventurer—and a guild member saw her face.
This volume was really fun to read, and I already can't wait for more volumes to be released so I can read more. I love how dedicated Alina is to her quiet and stable life, despite being powerful enough to probably be the strongest adventurer in the world. I look forward to how the story develops and who else may learn her identity or if a friendship will build between her and Jade Scrade.
Thanks to Edelweiss and Yen Press for access to this ARC.
This manga was silly in the best way. Great premise, and the first four volumes (all that’s out right now) were a lot of fun. This wasn’t anything groundbreaking but its interesting and fun enough that I would continue to follow it. I love the protagonists’ motivations, and they are honestly relatable. The other characters are fun too. This follows a lot of very heavily used and entirely unoriginal tropes….. but they are like that way because we like them, right? Hah!
Its fun and entertaining, yet nothing special or original beyond that one central detail, so I'm going to hand this one 4-stars.
I’m not sure where they are going to take the story because the initial premise wouldn’t sustain a longer story, and only time will tell if whatever this builds into will hold the same charm.
Alina Clover chose her occupation on the basis of her belief that she would be able to get home on time most days. But after three years as an Adventure Guild receptionist, sh is fed up with the paperwork caused by adventures who cannot manage to clean out the local dungeon. So she went down one evening with her big hammer and smacked the dragon. One blow finished it off. Unfortunately, she was spotted and know a particular adventurer is being a pest. But things get dangerous when a customer turns into a serial complainer who decides to take down her house! Will she give him a big whack in front of everyone and loose her secure job, or will she find a more creative way out of her problem?
As delightful as the light novel. First volume covered about half of the original, ending before Alina’s identity as the Executioner is revealed. Alina was as obsessed with her overwork as in the book, but Jade came across more mature and heroic in the adaptation than the original. Illustrations were lovely with details I hadn’t envisioned reading the light novel. I’ll definitely read more.
" For those familiar with the genre and for those looking for an entry point into manga, this title is simple without being superficial, is delivered with skill, and is truly a fun read from start to finish."
I think all of us can sympathize with her dislike of overtime! There's even a hint of cathartic satisfaction in watching her rage out and dominate over her gate of OT. I'm curious if well get any more work building and plot though or of it will all just continue the same line if humor.
What do you do, if you just want to do your job, and go home at the end of your shift? But stupid adventures keep causing you to have to work overtime? Why, you secretly go take out the floor boss that has blocked.
Alina is a guild receptionist! She loves her job for the steady work and security of having a job that you wouldn't get laid off from. The only draw back is the overtime! She hates it! How far will she go to stop the Overtime?
It's on me. I expected more of a wacky office drama, and I got an action-adventure story with hints of office drama and cozy life. Goofy, fun, but not quite the tone I wanted.
