My Best Friend's Dad

Rate this book
Ever meet the right guy at the wrong time?

I knew how it would end the minute I met him. Hayes was just a little too good-looking to be real, and just a little too old to be appropriate for me. Not to mention, he already has a girlfriend.

I never stood a chance.

I was fresh off the plane that had delivered me from my threadbare past into an uncertain future. Even in the luxurious world of our resort, his wealth was obvious. I couldn't believe my luck that a man like him would only have eyes for me. But it was no coincidence we found each other under the stars outside that bar on that particular night.

Hayes Sterling is a name that means something. Generosity. Protectiveness.

Getting the job I so desperately need.

It also means he's completely off limits. Forbidden. Taboo.
Not just because he owns the guesthouse I'm living in.
Because he's my best friend's dad.

A standalone new adult forbidden romance with no cheating and a HEA.

Now look, I'm a sucker for the forbidden age trope okay? Hard to believe I used to shudder at the thought of daddy tropes and here we are. Greedily devouring everything in my sight. So of course when I saw the blurb to this, I knew this would be my very first Sadie Black book. And after finishing it, I'm happy to confirm it won't be my last.

Generally I love my forbidden trope with a bit more angst. This one was more on the fluffier side. But you know what? I don't even mind. It hit the spot just right with just the right dose of drama and just a touch of forbidden feels.

Piper and Lincoln have been best friends for years. When he invites her to Aspen to stay at his father's resort. Hayes is Lincoln's father who he just recently grew closer to following his divorce from his mother years ago. Hayes is. workaholic and barely has time for anything outside of his resort. I do want to highlight that if you're thinking this has cheating, since Hayes has a girlfriend, it doesn't. All is not as it seems there though I wouldn't have minded the additional angst if it had it.

The chemistry with Hayes and Piper is instantaneous though they do try to fight it. It doesn't take long for things to get steamy and boy does it get steamy.

If you like a good age gap that's well written and not drowning in uber angst or drama, give this one a shot.

LOVED IT! My Best Friend's Dad is an exciting, steamy, enjoyable taboo/age gap romance. I'm liking this trope more and more these days, thanks in part to stories like this one! Sadie Black paints a delicious picture of rich, sexy Hayes Sterling and his world. His somewhat estranged son from his first marriage, Lincoln, and his son's childhood best friend, Piper Grant, re-enter his world more fully between high school and college as they try to find themselves and decide what to do with their lives. The best friend/lover triangle quickly materializes and we're off! I totally enjoyed Piper and her bold, in-your-face personality. Lincoln was sweet as her best friend/wanna-be rockstar. Hayes tried his best to be the in-control "Dad", but he was truly floundering in his personal life, hiding behind a "fake relationship" with a woman-friend of his own. When Piper walked into his world, he came alive. The ups and downs in this story were plentiful, fun to read, and kept me captivated throughout the story. Was it a bit unbelievable at times? Sure, but that's kind of the nature of this trope. Throw caution to the wind and jump into this one. I hope you'll like it as much as I did!

When I struggle to find something to read, I always gravitate to my go-to, Age Gap Romance, and throw in Best Friend’s Dad in the mix—even better. Sadie Black’s “My Best Friend Dad” brings on the forbiddenness that makes this story even better. On her way to visit her best friend, Lincoln, Piper hooks up with a very handsome, wealthy older man, Hayes. What they both later find out is that Hayes is Lincoln’s father.

Some other conflicts come up—some frustration, some angst, but all worth the read. The spice was perfectly balanced—not too much where it dominated the story. I loved that Piper had a male friend, unlike other best friend dad stories I’ve read—it made it more unique. Overall, it is an entertaining story.

This is the first book I’ve read by Sadie Black. I loved it. It started out with. Piper lusting after her best friend’s Dad. We find out Lincoln and Piper have grown up together and are lifelong best friends. On a visit to see Lincoln, Piper is surprised when he leaves to on tour and is left to stay at his Dad’s pool house.
As the story progresses we find Hayes and Piper fighting this pull toward each other. Sadie gives us the point of view of a girl trying to figure out if this is truly love or an infatuation along with not wanting her whole world to blow up.

I enjoyed reading this and I look forward to more books from this author.

I wasn’t too sure about this book at the beginning. I loved the relationship Piper and Lincoln had, but was a little thrown with her having feelings for an attached man. However, the pace of the book and how their mutual attraction built from a solid foundation helped turn my feelings around.
I liked that Piper acted like a responsible adult, was a strong and confident woman, and knew what she wanted.
I loved seeing Hayes’s point of view as well and how he was feeling. It really helped to know that this wasn’t just a fling and was turning into something real.
Overall, great writing and the character development was great.

Piper is taking a gap year as she has no real clue on what she wants to do with her life. She is in Colorado with her best friend Lincoln staying with his father. When she arrives, she meets a mysterious older man who flirts with her and has her attention immediately. What she doesn't know is that its Lincoln's father. Hayes has been in a false relationship with Staci and things have just becomes very stale. He is wanting more, something real as he is feeling lonely and just wants something more with someone who likes doing the things he does. When Lincolns band gets picked up for a tour it leaves Piper and Hayes alone. This book is a quick read that gives you all the warm and fuzzies as you see these two try to stay away from each other to just end up entangled in each other. They have so many things in common and enjoy each other's company. Hayes is so sweet and attentive to Piper she gets to be pampered and protected. He shows how much he is falling for her. Then your hit with the twist and your heart just breaks. I loved how this story was wrapped up you got to see such a heartwarming picture of these two happily in the future. It was a fun read that will make you smile. I was given this book as an ARC for my honest review.

Piper is the perfect fmc that is spunky, without being a total pushover and I love the way we got to see her inner troubles between her best friend Lincoln and the man she unfortunately catches all the feelings for — his dad. Not only that, but given the age gap, it’s that Lincoln’s father also has a girlfriend.

The big twists in the middle made me cry. Probably way more than it should have but listen — Lincoln and all his feels! When they came pouring out, I just lost it. Then the strain on my heart as they’re all attempting to find their footing and just… try to make it work. Hayes makes it so easy to love him and he honestly reminds me of how my own husband treats and spoils me absolutely senseless.

Hayes redeems himself in all the greatest ways at the end. The way they make everything final is overwhelmingly romantic and everything I would want myself! Sadie did an amazing job with making the relationships in this novel feel very real, with all the doubts and hard decisions along the way. Let’s face it — relationships are never easy to begin with!

Highly recommend! This one is not like my normal darker reads. It was a great palate cleanser for me between all the darkness that resides in my kindle and on my bookshelves

LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS BOOK

God it was such a good book I would pay anything to have a couple more chapters. Honestly I have zero complains theres not one thing I would change about it. The writing, the characters, the chemistry everything was perfect and well done.

Piper and Hayes were instantly attracted to each other. They definitely tried to stay away and just ignore the attraction. I really enjoyed the way they got together. It didn't feel force in any way it was felt really natural. Even though she was younger than him she was still as much of an adult as him.

She was very independent, responsible and confident. They are two people that go for what they want. They match each other really well. One of my favorite things about him is how supportive of her he was. He genuinely took interest in what she likes to do and always cheered her on.

"This man fed me, f*(ked me, and is now going to take me on a shopping spree" I need a Hayes in my life. This man said good morning beautiful and had ME drooling 😩

This is my first book by this author and it will definitely NOT be the last

First & most importantly thank you to the author for not making Piper a whiny, petulant child. Yes, I know she's only 19 so she'd have every right to portray her that way but it's just too common in age gap romances and it gets boring reading what feels like the same thing over and over. Loved that Piper's character was mature and responsible. Made me love the story even more.

This was a fluffy, low angst age gap with a side of hot and spicy. Loved Piper and Hayes together and equally enjoyed her friendship with his son Lincoln. The relationship Hayes and Piper start is not about him snagging the young hot and sexy girl or her bagging a sugar daddy. It's about connecting on a much deeper level, trying to ignore feelings that they both feel are unacceptable. But sometimes the heart wants what the heart wants. Even when they give in to what they know feels right they would both give it up for the one person they both love dearly.

This was a great read with an awesome cast of secondary characters and I would love to get Annie's story. I think it would be amazing!

My Best Friend’s Dad
By Sadie S. Black

I’m normally good with an age-gap trope and at the beginning I thought oh my this has the potential to to downhill, but Author Sadie Black did an amazing job keeping Hayes and Piper playing the long game, via banter and innuendo and I loved it!

Piper goes to Colorado to visit her best friend Lincoln, they have been BFF’s since primary school, they’ve even come to a conclusion that they will only ever be friends. So when Piper arrives and the first person she meets is Hayes (Lincoln’s father) she decides she could definitely spend some time with that handsome specimen….and then she finds out he is Lincoln’s father…off limits or on hold?

When Lincoln leaves for a six week tour with a band and Piper has taken a job at Haye’s resort, the new question is will they or won’t they.

I loved how the author let each character work their way through their feelings, make their own decisions and then take their chances.

Will the attraction between Hayes and Paige throw a wrench into her friendship with Lincoln? What about Hayes, will his confession to a friend be good or bad for that friendship?

Even with an age-gap will they continue to grow together?

With all the questions and issues that could arise and I rooted for them to make themselves the happy ending they both wanted.

I wasn't sure what to expect to be honest - was this going to be chliches and have me skimming? No is the answer to that!
Piper is adorable, she's mature for her age but still has an innocence and warmth about her.
Her and Lincoln's friendship is what people dream of, you could feel the love between them, but also possibly more on one side 😬
Then we have Hayes, Lincoln's dad who is hot as all get out!
There's no denying that sometimes agegaps can seem a bit sleezy or just not fitting, but that's not the case here, there's genuine attraction and an obvious connection. I liked that there was no changing of a person to fit the other, they just meld together perfectly.

It's a cute hot read.

This is Piper and Lincoln's story, they have been best friends for years, and when Piper stays at Lincoln's dad's resort in Aspen, things heat up between her and Hayes, Lincoln's father. Despite the age gap, their chemistry is undeniable, and they can't resist their desires. The story strikes a balance between drama and fluff, delivering just the right amount of forbidden romance. The characters are well-developed, with Piper's boldness and Lincoln's sweetness adding depth to the story. It's a captivating and steamy read, without drowning in excessive angst or unnecessary plot twists. If you enjoy well-written age-gap romances, this book is definitely worth a shot.

When I first read the blurb for this book I was a bit hesitant initially to put my hand up to review an ARC because it did mention Hayes having a girlfriend. And I can guarantee that if a book has cheating involved it is an automatic DNF for me. But I have read and enjoyed books from Sadie Black before and I trust Paige Publishing to not steer me wrong.
And boy, am I glad that I did put my hand up for this age-gap romance. I can promise you that there is no cheating but there is a lot of angst in this age-gap romance.
Black has given a nice spin on the Best Friends Dad trope in this slow-burn novel.

Piper falls her best friend Lincoln's dad, Hayes. I like how Piper and Hayes are friends in addition to their attraction to each other. It is also nice to see how the women get along with each other. No cat fights and no villainess at all. There is a HEA even though the plot has the potential to be very messy. It's a Sadie Black book so it's steamy of course. It's also fun. A terrific quick read.

An enjoyable story about Piper who meets Hayes while watching her best friend London perform. This is definitely a large age gap almost taboo relationship as Hayes turns out to be Londons father. I wasn’t sure about the two of them in the beginning but it turned out for the best. The only thing that really threw me was the bartender of an upscale hotel would serve a minor alcohol. The hotel could have lost their liquor license. I received an ARC copy.

ARC REVIEW:

A fantastic, fiery read from Sadie Black. I ate this up like no tomorrow. There’s nothing like crushing on an older man, but when he’s your BEST FRIEND’S DAD?! Eesh, bring it on. I really loved Hayes. He was dominant but he loved when Piper wanted control.
I loved the chemistry between the two. It was genuine and passionate.
I also really loved her friendship with Lincoln. They had their own certain chemistry that sparks some interest when you’re reading the book.

Great story. I admit, there were times I wanted to punch someone, and it wasn't always one of the MCs. However, the story was very enjoyable. Going on this journey with Hayes and Piper, as well as Lincoln, I had a great time. It was heartwarming, steamy, and heartbreaking all at the same time. The last three chapters really brought the story home. I loved it. I look forward to reading something else by this author.

This was my favorite book by Sadie Black! It was predictable but not in a bad way at all. I wish that the description of the book didn’t let you know that it was a HEA because I like going into a book with the mystery of if the relationship will be doomed or succeed but totally get it if that’s other’s preference. Overall this book was a quick read, great characters, and spicy! 🌶️ ⭐️

I love a good age-gap romance and what makes this one better for me is that he didn't watch her grow up, so there isn't a chance of an ick factor.

Piper has decided not to go to college right away and take a gap year to figure out what she wants to do. So when her best friend, Lincoln, asks her to come to stay with him and his father for at least the fall, possibly the whole year, she jumps on it. On her fight night there, she meets an older man and flirts heavily with him, only to find he has a girlfriend. And is Lincoln's father.

Which is fine at first. Hayes helps get Piper a job and she's living in the pool house rather than the main house. And Lincoln's there as a reminder as to why they should stay away from each other. But Lincoln's band is brought out on tour and it's just Piper and Hayes at home and the girlfriend is actually just a friend. And sparks fly between Hayes and Piper. Only to have Lincoln come home on a break and tear their relationship apart.

Hayes and Piper get their happy ending in this stand-alone book.

I could not find anywhere that says where Sadie Black is from. Which doesn't really matter much other than all the nineteen-year-olds drinking and bars and parents not having a problem with it. This makes me think Ms. Black isn't from the United States. Again, fine, but I have to wonder how Hayes, as the owner of the establishment, was more than okay with letting a nineteen-year-old drink there without losing their license. Even with a fake ID, the bartender shouldn't have allowed it.

Age-gap romances, especially where it's the best friend's dad, run the risk of being creepy and bordering on underage. I really loved that Hayes hadn't met Piper before now and that it was Piper who started most encounters even though they were both lusting after each other. And I loved that both didn't want to hurt Lincoln in all this. His approval at the end and his ribbing of Piper helped show how strong their friendship was.

I received an advance review copy from Paige Press LLC., and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A fun, steamy, off limits relationship. Loved seeing Piper's life falling into place, while falling for the one person who could make it all fall apart. Hayes Sterling.
