I happily live in Kansas with my wonderful husband and snuggle-pup, (who is most definitely spoiled,) and spend the long winter months trying to figure out how to fill my yard with flowers so I never have to mow again. When I'm not working with my beloved elderly clients, I'm turning blood into ink, talking to people who don't exist, creating entire worlds and spending way too much time plotting how to cause the most pain with my stories—all while making a general nuisance of myself and eating far too many cookies…(which isn't actually possible, because there's no such thing as too many cookies.) My existence is dependent on Jesus, copious and questionable amounts of magic bean juice, and grace, while I rearrange all 26 letters of the alphabet (under a pen-name) and gleefully use semi-colons liberally and incorrectly. (Thank goodness I have an amazing editor.) Often I compare myself to a horrible goose or a crow—for I hold a great secret desire to chase people around while screeching as I collect shiny things.

Brookes knows how to build a world. Waiting on book 3 to reread and read her two other books! Following Grimm until the end.

A twisted dark tale where legend and myth blend into reality.
This is a modern fairy tale with all of the darkness of the original Grimm tales. The dangers of being in the woods, the risk of visiting your grandma, what the shadows hide when you're sleeping. We get dreamscapes of visions of past tales in the beginning of the book, less so as the story gets going. Epitaphs at the beginning of each chapter are interesting (although the use of quotes from J.K. was a bold choice) Some of the Epitaphs helped to add to the tone of the chapter.
Enjoyed the art break page, very pretty, love the cover art too, it gives a good sense of the story that you're about to experience.
I enjoyed that this was spice free, with some romantic undertones and tension. But over all this is a a story about three sisters and their brother all attempting to do their best in a world that wants to see them drown. The mystery of the Grimms and why they are in the realm is deep and there is more to uncover.

A fantastic debut that completely hooked me
I picked this up on a whim and couldn't put it down. The blend of dark faerie lore with a pulse-pounding suspense plot was executed perfectly. Faye is a fantastic FMC determined and smart, even when drugged and held captive. I loved the dynamic between the sisters, even when they were separated, and the author does a great job of keeping the tension high on both sides of the plot. The Faerie politics between the Summer and Winter Courts are intriguing, and the prophecy element adds a great layer of mystery. The villain, Jeremiah, is genuinely unsettling. The story is fast-paced, the world is dark and absorbing, and the twisty ending has me immediately desperate for the next book. Highly recommend for fans of dark fantasy and fae romance.

Ok for starters this is a big book shes a biggin. But from the beginning the book draws u in! It took me a while to read it just bc im a slow reader and i was in a book challenge but if u love fantasy u will absolutely love this. It has fey and monsters and shadow creatures and oh did i mention magic and the relatives of GRIMM!!!! Like who doesnt like a grimm spin! But for real its amazing. Everything is well detailed and the flow is great. I only wish i had finished it sooner. But brookes you are an amazing writer and dont let anyone tell u different! She has a 2 and a 3 so lets check them out!!! Follow me in this journey of the fey realm!

Sisters with fates they can’t escape from. An imaginative telling about the descendants of the brothers Grimm. It started out a little confusing but definitely picked up! Not all my questions were answered but I feel like there is much more to the story that needs to happen before they are. I loved the witty banter and hilarious thoughts of the sisters. Their insults were just perfect. Family is such an important role in this book and I appreciated that. No spice, which is nice change from so many fantasy books. I would highly recommend! Can’t wait for the next book(s)!!!

Brookes brings amazing character development and introductions. I felt I could relate to each of the Grimm sisters with their feisty sisterly banter, insane inner voice dialogue, and love for cookies and chocolate. Just when I thought I had things figured out a new mix of chaos was thrown in. I loved this and cannot wait to read the next two!
