Faye Grimm thought there was no such thing as Faeries, and nightmares were nothing more than bad dreams. Until the Fey stole her away and she discovered her last name was more than just a coincidence. Eight years later, she and her family are still trying to come to terms with the terrifying world that has invaded their lives—a world that now threatens to claim her younger sisters, Ember and Evadne.
Faye has devised a reckless plan to save her sisters from her fate, but before she can carry it out the unthinkable happens—she is kidnapped by a group of mere humans. In retaliation Ember and Evadne are dragged into the dark and dangerous Faerie Realm where they can only trust each other as an unstoppable, inherited power blooms within them. Caught between Summer and Winter Courts in an age-old struggle for power and control, the girls fight to keep hold of who they are. Both courts believe that Ember and Evadne are the twins from an ancient prophecy, but no one can see the darker hand pulling the strings beneath it all. A figure entangling them in secrets, and seeking to unveil an even greater evil with the girls' blood.
Desperate to return to the Realm to help her sisters, Faye is doing everything she can to escape her kidnapper Ronan, despite the mind numbing drugs forced into her system every day. As she struggles to outwit Jeremiah, the true mastermind behind her kidnapping, the truth about why she was taken slowly begins to emerge. As the net of deception tightens around her, Faye must decide who she can trust and what to believe. Once she chooses her path, there will be no turning back. Fate and shadowy forces beyond Jeremiah's madness push her toward the dark truth; buried within the bones of the past lurks a danger with the power to unravel the present.
I happily live in Kansas with my wonderful husband and snuggle-pup, (who is most definitely spoiled,) and spend the long winter months trying to figure out how to fill my yard with flowers so I never have to mow again. When I'm not working with my beloved elderly clients, I'm turning blood into ink, talking to people who don't exist, creating entire worlds and spending way too much time plotting how to cause the most pain with my stories—all while making a general nuisance of myself and eating far too many cookies…(which isn't actually possible, because there's no such thing as too many cookies.) My existence is dependent on Jesus, copious and questionable amounts of magic bean juice, and grace, while I rearrange all 26 letters of the alphabet (under a pen-name) and gleefully use semi-colons liberally and incorrectly. (Thank goodness I have an amazing editor.) Often I compare myself to a horrible goose or a crow—for I hold a great secret desire to chase people around while screeching as I collect shiny things. You can find me online at erbrookeswrites.wordpress.com or on Instagram under erbrookesauthor Thank you so much for taking an interest in me and my baby, it means the world to me. I've held this dream close to my heart for as long as I can remember and I am both thrilled and terrified to be putting the first book out into the world.
Apparently, I like my fairy tales dark, brooding, and full of emotional damage.
The Grimm Inheritance by E.R. Brookes is what happens when classic fairy tales get tossed into a cauldron with shadowy kingdoms, dangerous secrets, and just enough romance to make you yell “JUST KISS ALREADY” at the page.
The worldbuilding? Absolutely lush. Like someone gave a haunted storybook a map and political instability. The characters? Deliciously flawed, morally questionable, and endlessly entertaining. I would die for at least three of them, and possibly strangle a fourth, but lovingly.
My one minor gripe: you can sometimes spot the love interests from a mile away. It’s that classic “hello, I just met you and I’d betray a kingdom for you” energy. But hey—this is dark fantasy, after all. Everyone's emotionally repressed and doomed anyway.
Highly recommend if you like:
* Fairy tales that bite back * A world full of mysterious creatures and magic * Banter that makes you woop * Romance with just the right amount of slow burn that reminds me of Austen, if she wrote fantasy *Cinematic action
Can’t wait to see what the rest of the series does. If it gets any darker, I’ll need a nightlight.
Ok for starters this is a big book shes a biggin. But from the beginning the book draws u in! It took me a while to read it just bc im a slow reader and i was in a book challenge but if u love fantasy u will absolutely love this. It has fey and monsters and shadow creatures and oh did i mention magic and the relatives of GRIMM!!!! Like who doesnt like a grimm spin! But for real its amazing. Everything is well detailed and the flow is great. I only wish i had finished it sooner. But brookes you are an amazing writer and dont let anyone tell u different! She has a 2 and a 3 so lets check them out!!! Follow me in this journey of the fey realm!
Sisters with fates they can’t escape from. An imaginative telling about the descendants of the brothers Grimm. It started out a little confusing but definitely picked up! Not all my questions were answered but I feel like there is much more to the story that needs to happen before they are. I loved the witty banter and hilarious thoughts of the sisters. Their insults were just perfect. Family is such an important role in this book and I appreciated that. No spice, which is nice change from so many fantasy books. I would highly recommend! Can’t wait for the next book(s)!!!
This book is a masterpiece! I was captivated from the very first page by the author's vivid and engaging writing style. The characters are incredibly well-developed, and I found myself deeply invested in their journeys. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good modern day fantasy with well-developed characters and a captivating world building. I'm already eagerly awaiting the author's next book!
Brookes brings amazing character development and introductions. I felt I could relate to each of the Grimm sisters with their feisty sisterly banter, insane inner voice dialogue, and love for cookies and chocolate. Just when I thought I had things figured out a new mix of chaos was thrown in. I loved this and cannot wait to read the next two!
Just from the summary alone, I can already tell this story is packed with high stakes and strong sisterly bonds. The blend of Faerie realms, ancient prophecies, and dark secrets sounds like something I’d devour. It gives me A Court of Thorns and Roses vibes but with a family twist. I’d definitely love to see how the sisters’ powers develop!
A breathtaking dive into a dark and enchanting Faerie world! The stakes never stop climbing—from family loyalty to ancient prophecies, every page kept me on edge. Faye, Ember, and Evadne are heroines I couldn’t stop rooting for.
I am in love with this book and excited to continue the series!!! The world is so well built and it continues leaving you wanting to know what come next!
