Lisa is a romance writer, recently chucked by her two-timing boyfriend, furious with her mother for suggesting that at 35 she's on the shelf. She's so furious, in fact, that she swears she'll marry the next man who proposes. But the next man is short, fat, and unattractive, with no redeeming features that she can see. Except his flat in Monte Carlo, and the possibility of starting life. completely afresh...
One of the most inexplicably written books I've ever read. From the madcap plot, simultaneously skipping what I would have thought to have been vital points in the character's lives, to stretching the bounds of even the most liberal of imaginations with wild plot points which seemed to make no sense whatsoever and filled with downright un-likeable (not human, not realistic, just nasty) characters...I don't know what to think. I've given it two stars just because I did read the whole thing in one sitting and there were some sections which were pleasant. On the whole though I wouldn't know whether to recommend or not. I think the aim was satire but what came out was something quite baffling.
This book is supposed to be a modern twist on a favorite fairy tale. I can tell you it's definitely a twist. I could not make myself like the main character Lisa. She was self centered and a pain in the rear. Her mother was just as bad.
It was just hard to wrap my head around the story. There were some fascinating twists that will definitely keep you guessing and going "What!" when everything comes into the open. In that regard you will not be let down at all.
