Being a forty-something divorcee with a college-bound teenage son is a freaking cakewalk compared to wielding my unruly magic. Did I mention that my newly discovered sister wants to kill me? After a hellish week spent with older-than-dirt archdruids and a few new enemies, I’m ready to get home so I can hug my kid and sleep in my own bed. But nope, that's not how my crazy magical mid-life works. My spirit magic has been triggered, and a ghost's cryptic message gives me more bad news. Something worse than my psycho sister might be after me. Awesome. It's Battle Royale time. I'm so over selfish magical creatures trying to steal my powers and my life. I’ll need the help of all my tru-craft guardians if I stand a chance against my supernatural foes. But first, I’ll have to get into the spirit of my new element before the spirit gets into me. Literally.
About Renee: USA Today Bestselling author Renee George writes paranormal mysteries and romances because she loves all things whodunit, Otherworldly, and weird. Also, she wishes her pittie, the adorable Kona Princess Warrior, and her beagle, Josie the Incontinent Princess, could talk. Or at least be more like Scooby-Doo and help her unmask villains at the haunted house up the street.
When she’s not writing about mystery-solving werecougars or the adventures of a hapless psychic living among shapeshifters, she is preyed upon by stray kittens who end up living in her house because she can't say no to those sweet, furry faces. (Someone stop telling them where she lives!)
She resides in Mid-Missouri with her family and spends her non-writing time doing really cool stuff...like watching TV and cleaning up dog poop.
Author Note: For readers who have enjoyed reading my books and taken the time to share their love in reviews, thank you so much! I can't tell you how much it means to me to know my work is valued.
When Iris passed all the trials she just wanted to go home and be with her family and relax. Well, Iris is in for a shock when someone from her past comes to get her and her family. Will Iris find Linda? Can she keep her family safe? I absolutely loved this book with suspense, love and supernatural elements this book has it all.
Ghost in the Spell (Grimoires of a Middle-Aged Witch Book 5) Author: Renee George Barkside of the Moon Press Release date: 13th March 2023
Iris, tru-craft witch, midlife divorcee and mom,.has had her ups and downs over the course of the last four books in this series, as each of her elements is sparked. In the last book she had to prove her mettle to a bunch of grumpy, know-it-all archdruids, but again came out in top, I'd not a little battered and exhausted. Book five - the spirit element - could be her biggest challenge of all. Her recently discovered sister is out to kill her, a mystery group of baddies want their mitts on her, and her son Michael is becoming much too interested in magic and she may have to finally cut the apron strings. Add in a spirit who gives her a frightening warning, and she's having a pretty bad week. Thankfully her coven of misfits and nerds has her back. This is it, the final battle we've been waiting for complete with witches, pucas, pixies, guardians and annoying but loving family members. Like Jamie Lee Curtis in the last Halloween Ends movie, Iris is taking no crap and a mother out to protect her child, or a woman out to protect her siblings or boyfriend, is a fearsome thing. In fact the theme of motherhood, family and the strength of such a cohesive team runs throughout this book. The power of the feminine and chosen family is what drives Iris forward. We also have a few surprises that do seem to come out of nowhere at first, but suddenly make sense. As for the supporting characters, or Iris' 'Scooby Doo' team, we get some terrific chonky cat scenes with Bob that are delightful and made me laugh out loud. I'm also a big fan of Zev and Marigold and want more of those two, as well as kick-as warrior Lu, Rowan, Carver and Linda (the gnome). It's a great finale to this five elements story arc with enough hooks to fire up more stories in this universe.
Having passed the near death trials from the Druids, Iris has returned home looking forward to seeing her family and getting back into normal. But what is normal when it comes to Iris? Getting a handle on her tru-craft with the spirit craft finally coming out will all be put to a test. Finding her nemesis who wants to kill her and take her magic is her evil sister who is very powerful in her own right keeps Iris on her toes. When her ex-husband and son are kidnapped, it is all Iris can do but to get her family around her to help her defeat her nemesis and get her ex and son back. This becomes a battle royal for her life and the lives of her loved ones. And she is also attacked by a very surprising being also wanting her magic. With her guardians, her brother and sisters, her love, Kier and the rest of her crew a plan is devised to end this all once and for all. And in doing so will cause a very major problem for her sister Marigold and one of her allies Zev. How will all this go down? Can they finally put and end to it all and stop her evil sister from trying to kill her? Or will she get away again? Add to that her familiar, Bob the cat not only is a help, but she learns about his other life. And where is Linda? Can she find her and save her? This is book is thrilling and I can't wait to see what will happen with these characters next. I can't wait to see what is next for poor Marigold and Zev. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Iris is finally getting a handle on her TruCraft powers, thanks in part to help from her guardians and her family. But she's gonna need all her skills when her closest family is targeted..and, oh yeah, her sister is trying to kill her. Can she save her world again? Hold on to your pointed hat and your winklepickers. It's going to be another crazy, dangerous ride. And where's Linda while all this craziness is happening?
OMGoodness! I love this book (and series) so hard! It's fun and funny and interesting, with great characters and an intriguing storyline. I can't wait to read more.
Many thanks to the author and BookFunnel for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor or expectation.
Iris has just returned from a life-or-death test to be thrown into a "family" battle. Her newly found sister has no interest in sisterly love. Hate is more like it. Still, she has her powerful friends and lover to help in her new battle. Oh, let's not forget her ex-husband.
This one is filled with action, magic, great characters, not-so-nice characters, and so much more. Not a single page that won't keep you wondering what's next? Is she going to make it out alive? Will they all make it? Who wins?
An exciting trip with Iris, her family, friends, and new friends.
Iris continued learning about her powers and found herself facing a revealing threat that put her emotions at stake and endangered her loved ones. But with the support of the family the problems became an adventure, there was no doubt that it was a dangerous and life threatening one, but manageable. I liked the family involvement, the new plot twists, Iris relationship with Keir, and that mystery that was being unraveled. An interesting and entertaining series with action, suspense, strong emotions, magic, various villains, funny scenes, romance, and passion. Kept me enjoying Iris' life changes after 40. Marigold and Zev have me intrigued. Eager for the next book.
Iris is making real progress with her TruCraft powers, and that’s very important with all that she has to deal with right now and what’s coming for her. Her sister wants her dead, but it’s not nice to retaliate against a family member, is it? And a ghost’s message is not well detailed about the “something worse” heading her way. So it’s difficult to prepare to fight against the unknown. But Iris is still ready to take them on if she can just master her new skills. Hang on for the ride, there is so much to deal with, ready or not!
Ghost in the Spell is a fantastic conclusion to the story arc that has continued since book one. The book is fast-paced, and there is a lot of action and danger along the way. Iris is still struggling with learning to accept help from those that love her and puts herself at risk trying to protect others. During the course of the story she learns information about her past, some of it not really welcome. I highly recommend this book and series for anyone who enjoys paranormal women’s fiction and urban fantasy.
Nothing says sisterly love when they are trying to kill you.
A newly discovered leads to a battle to the death as powers will be tested. Welcome to the fight for your life in this paranormal altercation. Who will end up the winner in this epic survival of the fittest?
You will be swept away by the magic and mystical creatures along the way. A fun read to sink your teeth into in this over age series.
I’m still loving Iris and all that she has to deal with – family! That family is both new enemies and loving lawn ornaments. The action kept this story moving and fun to read. There is a lot packed in and exciting twists.
This is part of a series and it would be easier if reading the books before this one but not entirely necessary to enjoy.
Though we missed a lot of Linda in this one, it was fun to meet Bob in his real form. This was an exciting addition, learning about Iris's parents while finally taking down Bogmall. I know we'll be getting a story for Iris's sister but keeping fingers crossed that Iris will come back for more now that she possesses all five tru crafts!
Definitely can't get enough of this series. You'll be swept away by the magic, action, and the exciting twist and turn. So looking forward to seeing what else is in store for this great series. As always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are completely my own.
We have another Winner with Iris and her coven who she will need to help her through this next midlife trial. Lot's of surprise, suspense, action-adventure, danger, and a real thriller. Entertaining, and exciting storyline and the characters keep you turning pages until the end. I read a copy via BookFunnel without obligation. I volunteered an honest review.
Hang on to your hats! It’s a wild ride! Iris has grown into her full tru-craft self, sparking the last element of spirit. This time around, things got wilder than before with Bogmall and a lot is at stake! With the guidance of her guardians and the love and support of her loved ones, can Iris once and for all be free of Bogmall? This book is an amazing read - I couldn’t put it down!
WOW Spirit is very spirited and a constant winding up to the detonating end! Iris is truly remarkable and in constant turmoil this round. This was a very emotional story, great suspense, unexpected revaluations and unexpected explanations! I hope there is more to Iris, Keir and Michael's adventures!!
You would think a girl would get a little R&R after surviving a magical life or death battle, right? Not Iris. She now has a newly revealed sister to deal with who would also like to see her dead. Also she need to find Linda!
Only AMAZING! I loved how everything was brought together and explained. So many surprises revealed! I can hardly say anything about the storyline because I’m afraid of giving any spoilers away, but it was so good!
Iris and her coven are back with a bang! This book will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat all the way to the very end. It has everything: loss, tears, frustration, friends, family, danger and love. All the gang is back to help Iris fight Bogmall. I’m loving this series so much!
This installment is non-stop trials for the gang. Love and pure stubbornness has gotten them through before but it may not be enough this time. Secrets are revealed and changes are made. I love this crazy group and can’t wait to visit with them again.
This entire series is beyond anything I would have thought of it. I will just write the review for all of the books. I managed to binge read all 5 in 3 days because I didn't want to stop reading. The characters are so full of live that you can't help but be on their side the entire time. Well done!
Renee brings us another exciting adventure with Iris and Keir. Backed by her family and friends, Iris discovers the truth of her past and saves them all from those who would end them. You won’t be able to put it down!
This is the 5th book in the Grimoires of a Middle-aged Witch series. I did enjoy the read a great deal. It is a fun read and I am glad everything got explained. I did enjoy the story along the way.
