A crime committed
A verse missing
And a secret has escaped its box

After the Battle of Thornbrill, Jason navigates the limits of his powers while Melanie struggles with homesickness. But those are not their only worries when an enemy thought to be dead returns. Spawned from a heinous crime, this dark force plots in the shadows beyond even the reach of Empress Elethýna. This foe shouldn’t have survived. Now it wants Scalaed.

Embarking on a new mission, Melanie and Jason try to find the elusive Spire’s Scroll, which appoints the Descendant of Light—the only one who can defeat the enemy. But legend suggests the final verse never made it to the kingdoms, and a madness overtakes any who journey to its birthplace.

New companions brew tension, darkness infects hearts, and a life-long secret breaks free. If Melanie and Jason cannot solve the meaning of the Spire’s Scroll in time, the enemy will use Scalaed to escape banishment and bring foul forces to exact revenge on the Tindorians who put them there in the first place.

Hannah Pennington has been writing fantasy since she was seven because reality doesn’t come with enough prophecies, magical creatures, or portals to other realms. When not scheming a new, juicy plot, Hannah can be found binge-watching DIY videos she claims to one day actually attempt, sharpening her graphic design skills, or drinking yet another glass of chocolate milk. She lives somewhere between her fictional worlds and Oklahoma. The Tindoria Chronicles trilogy is her latest attempt to escape reality—and drag new readers with her.

Had so much fun writing this book!

Narrative Voice: 3rd person (omniscient)

Cussing/profanity: 0/5

Drug/alcohol use: 1/5
Kissing: 1/5
Sex/nudity: 0/5
Violence/gore: 3/5

I love how the characters are growing, how the plot is thickening, and how the stakes are rising. The stage is being set for the finale!

HANNAH PENNINGTON'S DONE IT AGAIN!!!

This book would not let me set it down between introducing my new favorite character, incredible world-building, and vibrant imagery.
This roller coaster of a book took me on so many dips, twists, and turns and then proceeded to drop me off on a cliff-hanger (somewhat literally).
The book expands on so many concepts the first book introduced without having "info dumps".
I was overjoyed to see Spire of Tavnir having the same grand and cinematic feel as the first book.
Additionally, Hannah again succeeded at that fascinating 3rd person narrative voice.

A few minor notes:
The few very minor criticisms I did have from the first book did not repeat in the second as there was no more confusion regarding time jumps and the pacing slowed down slightly, meaning high speed moments no longer required me to slow down.
The flashbacks were introduced seamlessly and leveled up the story SO MUCH!
Overall, the structure, story, and pacing felt so very polished.
(Favorite moment was chapter 6)

Would exceedingly recommend!

...Now I must wait for book 3 :/

✨ARC Review✨

This book was the wonderful. I devoured it in just a couple of days and cried when I finished because I didn’t want the journey to end (and also that CLIFFHANGER!!). If you haven’t had the chance to read The Prisoners of Thornbrill yet, I highly suggest doing so to allow yourself the chance to dive into this excellent sequel!

I don’t know what magic Hannah possesses, but it truly felt like a warm hug re-entering the world of Tindoria. This sequel added so many new layers of depth to the world, characters and plot. You get to meet many fun new characters and learn some shocking secrets. There are many fun magical moments, sweet+goofy sibling bonds, swoony romance, and, of course, dragons.

Hannah wove some new elements into this story that I deeply enjoyed. Jason has grown so much throughout the course of these two books, and I really loved getting to see his strength, courage and heart for the people around him shine through in this sequel. I loved that he was just one of the many examples of good, strong male characters in this series. I appreciated the absence of “morally grey” characters; good and evil are very clearly defined, and the evil is not treated or twisted into something trying to be “good”. A small thing but something else I personally appreciated was the way that horses are described. Kyle, Jason and Melanie’s cousin, lives on a ranch and takes care of the horses his family owns. As someone who’s worked with horses before, I loved seeing how detailed and accurate the description of their care was! Kudos to you, Hannah!! One final thing that I wanted to add was the little strand of faith Hannah included in this sequel. I didn’t detect much if any in the previous book, but I loved its inclusion in this one. It felt rich, powerful, and authentic to the story, and I hope to see more included in this way in book three!

I would like to note while The Spire of Tavnir is clean, both the romance and the violence are upped a notch or two in comparison to book one. There’s hand holding, kissing, cuddling, and lover-y talk (“I love you” “You’re beautiful”, etc.). In the violence department, there’s a whole chapter that includes what are essentially zombie centaurs and some pretty gross descriptions of them coming back to life. I believe these zombies are only discussed in full detail once, but they do appear and are spoken of several other times throughout the book. In my opinion these things made this book feel decidedly more YA than the first. With all of that being said, I am grateful the fact that this is a book I feel comfortable recommending to people, especially younger teenage friends who love fantasy books; there’s no cursing and no spice in this series.

If you’re looking for an excellently crafted sequel that is full of heart-warming family bonds, troublesome dragons, and a sweet sprinkling of romance, then this is the book for you! 💚

Favorite quote: “Courageous does not mean fearless. Courage is resisting fear, triumphing over it by doing the terrifying right thing. I hear you. You are scared. But now hear me. [SPOILERS] cupped her face and held her closer. “Fear does not own you.”

Not often can I say the second book is better than the first, but in this case it is. I was honored to Beta read this book. I will say there are at least 4-5 plot twists and you will come to love them. That aside if you like dragons and fantasy you will love this book. I definitely get How to Train Your Dragon vibes and I love it.

I highly recommend this book for fans of the Eragon, or Dragonriders of Pern series! The first book sets the stage for the depth and expansion present in this sequel. The amount of detail, descriptions, and by-play with the characters draws you in and during a particular sequence, gives you the heebie-jeebies. Great plot twists, story-telling, and dare I say even a bit of education. I had the opportunity to binge the first two books back to back and am now very impatient for the third!

After these, there are talks of a dystopian series and I cannot wait to see what the author can do with that theme after seeing her develop from her first book until now. Great intro into fantasy for YA as it does a great job of inferring violence instead of going into gory Game of Thrones level detail!

Oh my goodness what a great second book! I think I like it even more than the first. We get to know so many more characters that bring the story to life, and the characters we already know grow and change in ways I didn’t expect. I’m sad this book ended in such a cliffhanger *wink wink nudge nudge* (pun intended), but I’m so looking forward to how this story ends!! What makes me like this book? There are dragons, there is magic, there is a quest, and it’s clean. I will definitely let my kids read this when they are older and can enjoy it.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this book!! It has everything you’re looking for in an epic quest: adventure, rekindled hope, camaraderie, slow burn romance, intrigue, this book has it all and more without the spice and explicit language!! I am absolutely on pins and needles to see where this story leads to next!! Very well written and a job well done!!

Hannah Pennington's The Spire of Tavnir is a thrilling adventure story chock-full of dragons, magical creatures, and quests for victory!

As the second installment for her Tindoria Chronicles trilogy, I had high hopes and was very much looking forward to this book and I must say that the adventure never seemed to stop in this one!

But that might have been the problem, and hence is the reason why I can't give this book five stars. The pacing was a bit to fast and things seemed to be running full tilt everywhere. For example the romance in this story seemed to move way to fast, and without much of a reason and it seemed like the romance scenes were pushed into places where they shouldn't have been.

But aside from minor issues I really enjoyed the book! We got introduced to new characters such as Kyle, Melanie and Jason's cousin who in all honesty became my favorite character almost instantly! His good humor and out of the box thinking made me dread the scenes without him!

We also get introduced to a new villain which, golly I was not expecting that!!!

And of course we got to read more about our favorite dragons, Scalaed and Pi! (Ps. Justice for Scalaed, my sweet boy deserved so much better!)

This whole story is just so much fun and I am eagerly awaiting the third!

While it is marketed as a YA I would probably say it is more Middle-grade, which is totally fine but there are a few fear elements that might scare children under thirteen years of age. Other than that it is squeaky clean and a thrill ride of adventure!

If I had to rate this book I'd give it four stars

Two stars for good characters
One star for intriguing world building
And One star for the story overall!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I received this e-arc free in exchange for an honest review, all opinions are my own.
