Stuff You Need to Know for University

Rate this book
This highly original and informative guide to the mysteries of university study will be an invaluable tool for all new students, combining knowledge, wit and wisdom in equal measure. The book covers everything from how to write essays, how to plan and, most importantly, all of the key cultural information that new students need and often don't have. All the key thinkers that any self-respecting student should have heard of will be referenced, and their context explained.

''Richard Osborne, John Reid and Mary Reid have produced an excellent guide to universities, written from the perspective of a student and full of insights and information which have never before been brought together in one book. As a former Minister for Higher Education I know how important it is that the mystique that sometimes surrounds universities is punctured in a style and format that young people appreciate which not only acts as an encouragement to go to university but provides the essential information they need once they are there. The fact that it's so entertaining and readable is an added bonus.''

A perfect introduction to degree level thinking, ideal for someone about to start university. Plenty of good tips on how to navigate being a student.and loads of useful information on subjects I knew nothing about, or who to read. Many students i have met have been through a lot of stress, that could of been avoided had they been more aware of what was really expected of them on their course, this book bares all, pulls no punches. An ideal gift for a young student.

Very informative on the basics of managing your day to day life at university, what to expect of yourself, your mind, and your body. A very fun introduction to 'freshers week', with the good, the bad and the down right painful!

The top ten section is great, lists the 10 most important media releases of many area's of study, all the 'must see' and 'must have' to be at a degree level of thought.

Really useful before starting university.

Generic advice for university - definitely wouldn't recommend purchasing, as it's all common sense stuff.
However, the lists of people you need to know relating to each subject you could be studying gives a good idea of the kind of books you might encounter on recommended reading lists - good starting point for future research.
