In their nighttime dreams, two very different people who have nothing more in common than a property line--eccentric artist Robin Wise and nerdy scientist Alex Simon--are drawn together to fulfill each other's most seductive fantasies. Original.

I guess the word "dream" in the title should have tipped me off, but the plot here relied heavily on the hero & heroine's shared dreams. They fell in love in parallel-universe dreams before they recognized their feelings in real life. Honestly I felt this was unnecessary because I liked them as they were, and the whole premise of "fate" just felt too heavy handed here. It's a shame because again, I did enjoy some of the story.
Despite the cover this is not a historical romance. The paranormal aspect was the fact that the two characters are reincarnated old lovers. It's very contemporary in that there's not truly an 'evil' character and the plot is very basic and uneventful. But in a way this allows the focus to be on the characters and we're able to see a little deeper into what makes them tick. It's revealed about half way through the book that despite the heroine's cheerfulness and positivity she suffers from Agoraphobia which becomes known when she refuses to leave her house during a hurricane. The hero isn't macho or possessive but honestly just a normal guy. It was defiantly a change of pace from what I normally read but not an unwelcome one.
I adore the idea of falling in love in a "historical era" and then having those feelings transfer into the here and now. This book captures a time-travel romance scenario w/out all the confusing sci-fi elements. The characters are wounded and guarded, but by losing their inhibitions in their dreamscape, they realize how much they're missing out on by shutting the door to relationships in their every day lives. Both hero and heroine shine their brightest when their vulnerabilities are front and center. I couldn't help but get caught up in the dream sequences, all the while rooting for them to find their way to one another in the real world. Very clever and wonderfully written. :)
