After spending time training in the school track team in his efforts to be closer with Suzuka, he encounters a challenge: A race against Japan's champion sprinter! Will Yamato be able to beat the champ in the sprint?

Focusing more on the sports angle like in the previous volume, "Suzuka" volume 4 follows Yamato's progress in track training. He gets to know the captain of the team, a hilarious character that punishes Yamato with a choke hold whenever he notices him slacking off. And Honoka, the shy girl that has a crush on Yamato, tries her luck at getting Yamato's attention whenever she can. Meanwhile, Suzuka mourns the death of a fellow star track member from her past, somebody whom Yamato shares a likeness to. These scenes are quite emotional and provide an explanation for Suzuka's constantly harsh behavior towards Yamato.

This volume also contains a light-hearted breather chapter where Yamato, Suzuka, Miki, Honoka, and a track member named Kobayakawa all go have fun at a water park. Hilarity ensues whenever Yamato and Suzuka are about to encounter each other but then get distracted or interrupted by the others. The artwork of the water park is very well illustrated, especially the depictions of the water slide from a distance. It is a fresh change from the background drawings of the school track and field that dominated most of this volume and the previous one.

A great continuation of the "Suzuka" manga, volume 4 digs deeper into Yamato's increasing courage and Suzuka's past. Things are getting more interesting!

This was the best volume yet. I like the love story and the sports angle. I hope both can survive through 15 volumes.

Suzuka: Volume 4 is high entertaining. I absolutely loved the whole track meet thing and the new rivalry between Yamoto and Arima. I am sure we will be seeing more of this jerk in the future. You just know that Yamoto is going to have to race him again. Maybe he won't fall down next time. I was disappointed when this happened, but I understand that it adds more drama for the future this way. It was also nice getting a little history on Tsuda, but we still haven't found out how he died. I am interested in know how and why this happened. We do know that for some reason he stopped running. Was something physically wrong with him? Or, maybe, something happened in his life that made him temporarily stop running? Who knows?

As for the story in this volume, I absolutely loved it. When the book ended, I was all, "Noooooo!" But, hey, good news, I have the next book. So, I am going to start reading it as soon as I am done writing this. The Translation and Adaptation from Japanese to English is perfect and the artwork by Kouji Seo is picture perfect. Hey, no nudity! That is a first.

Overall, Suzuka: Volume 4 is an excellent book in a series where each book is just a little bit better than the last. I look forward to finding out if Asahina is getting close to telling Yamoto that she loves him. I hope that will happen in Suzuka: Volume 5. I will keep my fingers crossed.

I rated this book a 9½ out of 10.
