This is such a great book. For people who love long epic novels where you learn tons, this is the book for you. Bonus that there is a beautiful love story and great characters in the book.
What could have been interesting is instead insanely long, meandering, and difficult to follow with frequent changes in narration, setting, and time just to name a few. There's a love story in here and a battle for the Alamo, but it's lost in a sea of pages and side stories--not to mention a lot of beans. This could easily have been half the length while telling a much tighter story. Most egregiously is the fact that this is nearly 600 pages but the ending is rushed without explaining some fairly large main plot points.
Great historical read with a sweet romance between the two main characters. Asks (and answers) the question about what if there were women that fought at the Alamo. The size of the book was daunting to begin, but once I started reading, I didn’t want the story to end. Is it too soon to request a sequel? Loved Bailey and Sarah.
