Catrina has never given love a chance. The moment she finished high school, she left her small town of Wynderland, Georgia to move to New York City. For years, she dedicated her time as an intern until she was able to step into the position that she is in now. Love had always taken a backseat for her. A couple dates here and there, but never anything serious. Family and love is something that Cat has always kept tucked in her back pocket. Love slowed people down and often stole a piece of them when it went bad. Cat never wanted to end up like that, so her career became her love, and her co-workers became family. One night after a couple glasses of wine Cat decides to download a popular dating app. Only looking for a quick hookup, she matches up with a guy from Atlanta, Georgia who happened to be passing through New York. One message led to months of talking on the phone. And months end up being a year of talking. With the holidays approaching, Cat never goes home to visit, but decides this year she’ll make the trip back home to visit family, and with hopes of finally being able to meet the man she has fell in love with over the phone for the past year. However, the moment that Cat steps foot back in her small town, everything goes haywire. Poor Cat has dreams of a southern love, but will she end up with just Catfish? Rachael and Mason were married right out of high school. She always had dreams of leaving her small town of Wynderland, Georgia, to attend her dream college. Being the eldest child in her family, it has always been important for her to get a degree. All of those dreams diminished when she got pregnant by her high school sweetheart, Mason. Gone were the thoughts of college parties, books, and moving away. Now, her reality was diapers, bottles, and getting married. Their arrangement had always been that Mason would work and provide for Rachael and their children, while Rachael took care of the home and children. That had always been their dynamic since the day she gave birth to their first child. Years later, and with a developed drinking habit – Rachael is unhappy in her marriage. She yearns for a husband that she doesn’t have to pick up from the bar drunk, or one she has to lie to her parents about. Mason hasn’t worked in months, and it’s been Rachael trying to hold their family together. Rachael comes from a family where you stick it out in your marriage and make it work for your kids. Witnessing her sister’s happiness, she can’t help but think that there is something out there more for her – that doesn’t include a drunk, inconsiderate husband. Rome Jefferson is a successful real estate developer from New York City. After his very messy divorce, he decided he needed a change of scenery and moved to Wynderland, Georgia. Wynderland is a smaller pace than he’s used to. However, the development possibilities are endless. Rome moves to Wynderland looking to further his career as a developer, but what he doesn’t expect to find is love.
I love Jahquel books but this book was not it at all. I’m just not understanding the point of this at all. And the ending sucks because it feels like the book was just cut short and more needs to be said. Not a good read at all. We don’t get enough info on catrina and ray & then Rachel and Rome’s story is cut short too.
Is it crazy that I wanted more of this read. I love that Cat gave Ray a second chance to prove himself, now they both can't get enough of each other. It's sad with the situation with Rachel because of Mason drinking and him doing something so foolish to lose his life but she found her happiness with Rome and I love that. I don't agree with her doing it while she was married. I do on the other hand understand where she's coming from because just because you've been with someone so long doesn't mean you can't fall out of love with them, especially with the things that Mason was doing. I wished I could've had more of this read because I feel Rachel and Rome will make it far in a relationship.
I’d give Save Myself 3.5 stars. The story had a good mix of small-town drama, heartbreak, and second chances, but I found myself wanting more depth from the characters and their journeys.
Catrina’s balancing act between love and career was relatable, but her arc felt like it could’ve gone deeper. Rachael’s storyline brought the most emotion watching her navigate a draining marriage really hit but I still wished her growth had been explored more fully. Rome was a highlight, but even he left me wanting to see more layers.
Overall, it was a solid read that showed women fighting for the love they deserve, but it didn’t completely satisfy me the way I hoped.
This one was just okay for me. The storyline had potential small-town drama, second chances, and complicated love but it didn’t fully pull me in the way Jahquel’s books usually do. The characters were relatable and the writing was solid, but I didn’t feel that same emotional connection I’ve come to expect from her stories. Still, it’s a decent read if you’re looking for something slower paced with a mix of romance and reflection.
My WHOLE heart broke for Rachel, even though I was happy that she finally chose herself!!!… Family is EVERYTHING and I happy that this family came together for both Rachel w/ the loss of husband and their mom with her cancer diagnosis!!!… Daddy was in full effect and was carrying a load!!!…Silas finally made a decision and was so happy for him!!!… This book was so good and showed, no matter how old we are, we still need our family!!!…
The way this book wasn’t written correctly bothers me. The storylines were rushed and why would you kill Mason?? I mean there is really no epilogue here! Nothing was developed and we don’t know what happened to the characters at the end! Then you wrote 2 parts for nothing! Terrible.
Great read, I loved it. You never ever disappoint me when you release a book. I so loved Rome and Rachel relationship though and I’m glad that they got together because she deserves her happy ending.
Aww!! I felt so bad for Rachel, but Rome came along and showed her how to love again. Mason was so selfish and his momma enabled him and the daddy didn't even know. I hope we get a story on Silas and Peyton.
Now, while the author takes you through 2 detailed stories for this book the endings to both stories seemed rushed. The ending of the 2nd story felt more like she was just tired and wanted to end the story. But again enjoyed learning about each character.
This is a story of teal life situations. Two different stories that have a family connection on quite a few issues. You want be disappointed. You'll ❤️ this read as much as I did.
Ok so y'all gonna give me a part two or what cause I cant sit her wondering what's going to happen next. I know that would be a great book as well. Lets see what happens next.
I enjoyed both stories about the sisters. The only things that are baffling to me is the endings of each story. It seemed like more details were needed but it still was a good read.💙💙
Save Myself was a quick read with a good message, but it left me with too many unanswered questions. I liked the overall idea, but it felt like parts of the story were missing, and I wanted more closure by the end.
Imagine being married FRESH out of high school to your forever but he never grows up. Rachel did what most women do and that’s be everything to everyone and never have it reciprocated.
Exceptional storyline about, love, marriage, alcoholism, infidelity and finding love again when your marriage has ended on a really bad note!!! Loved it!!!
