Tiffany Favor, the most popular girl in Centerville, always dreamed of being a movie star. Her mother and father certainly did all they could to help her be the best. Now Goliath Industries was giving her her big chance. But it could mean putting her family and the whole town in danger. Goliath's plans for Tiffany bring to a climax their efforts to take over Centerville and the whole country. Here is the dramatic conclusion of the battle between the forces of the Spirit Flyers and Goliath Industries.
On its own, it's not a bad book. However, as a close to a series, it lacks. We've seen this story before and so the repetition drags it down for me. I wish it would ramped up the stakes in more of a climax- let's have our Last Battle ala Lewis' Narnia series. There's a whole town of people with magical bicycles and supposedly the world has been taken over by the Order/ Goliath group which dominated by white X snakes in disguise. But nothing much comes of it besides having the plot revolving around saving the newest main character- fine, great. Raise the stakes.
The story also errors in bringing back previous villains and does absolutely nothing with them. They spy a couple times and it looks like we might get a cool return... and then nothing. They reappear at the end where all the villains sit around giving excuses why they aren't the ones to blame. Given that's all they do, they ought to have been cut.
I also dislike Sloan's portrayal- he sounded far too similar to Barry. Barry was always a fairly inept bully, but he worked at the beginning of the series and then experienced his own character arc a few books, which I very much enjoyed. At the same time, Sloan was introduced as a far more competent bully, which helped raise the stakes. This book undoes Sloan- he had the same level of naive ineptitude as Barry. His lines would be interchangeable with Barry, which really downgraded his character.
Anyways, if you like the same structure as the other stories, this follows the same pattern. But to me, it fell into too much of a rut, when it could've shaken things up for the grand finale.
I read this as a kid - made a huge impression on me. So big, that I finally tried looking it up again. The library didn't carry it. And wow. Still an awesome series. The first book is the hardest for me - glowing red eyes, black snake funnel clouds - scary stuff. But if ever there were a series that did a good job explaining good and bad - the insidious tendrils of evil and the overwhelming unconditional love of God, this is it. Each book in the series is fabulous. My eight year old is not ready for this yet, but I will read it to her when she is ready. I've seen bad reviews - yes, if you are a person who dislikes fantasy, magic and scary stuff, this is not a series for you. But John Bibee did a fabulous job with the Spirit Flyer Series - my kids will definitely go through the whole group with me some day.
Aside from the first book in the series, this was my favorite. I was so sad to see it all end, but at the same time so happy to see it all come together at last.
