Loved book 3 in this series taking us from 1845 Lancashire seeing Annie achieve personal happiness and ongoing business success. Yes, there are trials and tribulations, and another enemy made - her stepdaughter Beatrice for one!
Sadness at how William finds out about his birth and real father by a bitter and hating Beatrice which almost spoils the close relationship with his mother Annie.
Also, to see her brother Tom to continue to find his happiness with Marianne which when she is killed by the reckless Lord Darrington you mourn along with Tom and yes, I cried for his loss!
Annie's other siblings continue to thrive, and lives improve through the opportunities given to them. Also, her father is given a third chance to find happiness despite Tom's initial disapproval.
Also, the doctor gains another daughter - illegitimate from his estranged wife who dies in childbirth and the chance of happiness with his young housekeeper Ellie - Annie's friend from when they both started out as servants in the doctor's household in the 1830s.
I loved it.
