This is number two of a trilogy. I really like the characters. This is an interesting match between a 'Princess' and a commoner with a title. I knew at some point there would be a way for the two of them to become a pair. It happened, but not going to give it away. Recommend.
Mediocre romance. I like the hero, Drew - he's a stand up, honorable guy who isn't overbearing (he's actually a bit of a doormat) and he doesn't struggle with the fact that he falls in love with the heroine, Princess Caroline. Now Caroline starts out the book as TSTL. She irritates me with her casual disregard for her own safety. She improves later on in the book. And thankfully this character doesn't collect kids like so many of the author's other characters, but she does collect loyal subjects. The plot itself was pretty okay and I really did want the characters to be together and happy through it all. So that's a plus.
The love between these two characters builds very slowly in my opinion. At first there's a mild attraction, then they do a lot of work together but there isn't much chemistry and then they sort of gradually realize that they love each other and that it's all doomed to failure because she's a princess. They don't even kiss until over half way through the book and even that's really tame. And honestly, the one and only sex scene doesn't pop up until the last ten pages of the book. I read romance partially for the smut and partially for the happy endings. This has the HEA, but is seriously lacking in smut!
