Ralf König was born on the 8th of August in Soest, Westphalia, Germany. He went to the secondary school in Werl and then later did an apprenticeship as a cabinet-maker. In 1979 during his coming-out he published his first short comic stories which due to the politically motivated gay-movement were very engaged. The comic-stories appeared in the Munich underground magazine Zomix as well as in the gay periodical Rosa Flieder. He decided to continue his studies and then trained at the National Academy of Art in Düsseldorf from 1981-1986 concentrating on Free Art.
Okay, as much as I enjoyed Down to the Bone, I had to knock off some stars. I'll get into why in a bit.
This is a direct sequel to Killer Condom, starting a few months after the last book ended. A new monster is hunting the gay men of New York City, and Luigi Macaroni is on the case. The story is just as tasteless and fun as Killer Condom, with plenty of filthy hijinks jammed between the B-movie monster madness. This book is filthy, with fairly graphic (but cartoony) sex, and a ton of really funny bits.
So why not more stars? Well... A commonly used transphobic slur pops up a bunch of times. Yes, this book is older, but I'm not going to give it a pass. Also, a just as jarring and unwelcome is a slur used to describe an Asian character, and there's a jab at a Puerto Rican character as well. The language is used to make Macaroni sound more hard nosed and gritty, but it really just makes the lead of the book sound racist. Not a good look.
If you liked Killer Condom, you'll love Down to the Bone, but be aware going in that there are some major problematic elements present.
I would love to see more stories with Macaroni, but without the transphobia and racism. Not really qualities I look for in a hero.
Básicamente lo que dije de El condón asesino. Historieta humorística que roza el thriller dentro de la temática LGBT. Muy divertida y diferente a lo que uno acostumbra leer
