A box set of books 4, 5, and 6 in the On Behalf of Death

When Death's Away, Book 4:My name is Cal Thorpe. I can’t die. And now I have to stand in for Death while he takes his vacation.

After the disaster involving me, Al Capone, Chicago and The Taxman (don’t ask), I am now experiencing phantom soul syndrome. My emotions are haywire and I have an obsession with coffee. Then, my boss Death informs me that he’s going on vacation and I have to stand in for him.

Almost as soon as he’s gone, Life asks for my help collecting a soul. Only, this soul doesn’t want to be collected. Now I’m going on an adventure that crosses the mortal realms to try and find this soul with Life nagging in my ear. Between Life, my temporary duties as Death, and the rush that collecting souls brings, I should have known this would be far from easy.

I should never have agreed to be Death’s proxy while he went away. Because of course, things went downhill from there…

Mischief, Mayhem and Shakespeare, Book 5:

Death has jury duty, so he’s left me in charge of his pets.

My name is Cal Thorpe, and after running to Life in some desperate attempt to prevent my becoming a Reaper, things have only gotten worse. While I’m trying to figure out how to come to terms with my abilities, Death has me petsitting his fur two half-Fae dogs named Mischief and Mayhem, and a grimalkin Faerie cat named Shakespeare.

When the dogs accidentally get out, I have to venture to Faerie with Shakespeare at my side to retrieve them. Only, the Fae are tricky and now I’m on a quest for the Winter Queen to steal from her rival. Now I have to traverse Faerie kingdoms to save Death’s dogs. With an angry human servant to the Fae at my side, and Shakespeare to provide snarky comments, I can already tell this is going to be a problem.

As per usual, things go downhill from there.

The Long Way Home, Book 6:When Death hired me to be his marketing agent, I never thought I’d see my family again. Turns out, I was wrong…

My name is Cal Thorpe, and I am a Reaper. After the debacle with the Fae, things slowed down enough for me to actually focus on my real job. Marketing. Only, right in the middle of a photoshoot for the best coffee ever, Life and Death appear and tell me that there’s a problem with my cousin, Baz, and I need to go home immediately.

Apparently, my cousin accidentally woke up one of two super powerful forces keeping the magic of the mortal realms in check. Now, the giants are planning on going to war against their enemies, the angels. I have to stop them without tearing a hole in the fabric of reality. Oh, and my cousin lives with my mom.

As it always is when family and work collide, things went downhill from there.

Evelyn Grimald “E.G.” Stone is an independent author, editor, and linguist who has been writing, creating and causing vast amounts of trouble since a young age. When not writing, she is off musing about the workings of languages—both real and created—or reading and sewing. E.G. reads voraciously, much to the confusion of her two dogs and two cats. Weird, nerdy, perhaps a little crazy, she is having a grand old time writing, reading, editing, musing on language, and, naturally, continuing her endeavours in causing trouble.
