About the author

Douglas Downing is Professor Emeritus of Economics at Seattle Pacific University, where he taught from 1983 to 2018. He holds a BS and a PhD in economics from Yale University. At SPU, he taught economics, quantitative methods, astronomy, and globalization. Dr. Downing also served in various leadership roles and authored 15 books, including a trilogy of math adventure novels. His 2015 book, Freedom, Opportunity, and Security, explores the relationship between economic policy and the political system.

It was a good dictionary But not without some flaws. For one, the version I've read is 14 years old and technology and computer science has Not stopped moving, fast! Also, the dictionary goes into terms for some things I don't associate with computing/Internet like photography. But there's a bunch of term that everyone should know and many things in history that shouldn't be forgotten. One of my favorites was reading someone describing Forth and RPN (reverse polish notation)!
This isn't a quick read but could be, paged through as time is available, without any loss of continuity!

I no longer have this book. Was sold in one of many moves. I did find it an invaluable resource in the 90's when I'd never even used a computer much but decided to go computer science for school. I sat in Denny's for a week and read this cover to cover with a red pen.

A dated resource now, even at the time I read it. The great thing about a book like this though is it sorta gives you a history lesson. Not only showing you things you hadn't heard of but giving insight about sources of common knowns. Also one can build a picture of what the internet once looked like that I haven't quite seen anywhere else.
