When Sarah, the meekly obedient daughter of a domineering billionaire, is sent into space and forced to join the wild, harsh life of the desert-dwellers on the planet Rover, she’s confronted with a choice. Keep her head down, as her father expects, and gather useful information about the strange planetary Societies that have recently made contact with Earth. Or, welcome the power that comes with her scaly-skinned Assimilation and reinvent her life, free at last from her oppressive family.
As she grows to care for those around her on this strange new planet, Sarah learns of a threat to them all, a shadowy group called the Spear. Her new abilities offer the chance to rescue not only herself, but many others. The question how far is she willing to go to protect this way of life?
I received this as an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
In the first book, Assimilation, the reader follows Kena who is an Earther. Generations ago Earth was cut off from the Societies. The Societies are made up of seven different planets where aliens can choose to assimilate and develop abilities special to each society.
In this novella, Serpentina, we follow an Earther named Sarah as she attempts to assimilate to her chosen planet.
Sarah was a minor character in the first book but despite the little page time she received, I disliked her a lot. She was whiny and annoying and mean to her best friend. However, this story took her through an amazing, growth character arc. By the end, she became one of my favorite characters and I hope to see more of her in the second book of the series.
this was a strong novella, I enjoyed how good everything worked together. The characters were everything that I was hoping for and loved the concept overall. Sydney Reames does a great job in keeping the reader entertained and making you care about the characters.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Won’t lie.. I am NOT a snake fan. They just creep me out then I started reading this book. Sydney what have you done! I also enjoyed this POV and at first was like mm who is this but it was such a great flow of storyline!
This ARC was gifted to me and all thoughts/opinions above are my own!
