A tween girl becomes a reluctant medium in this start to a hilariously haunting series.
There’s an old saying that “dead men tell no tales” — but that saying is definitely not true. Just ask twelve-year-old Kendall Williams, who can’t get dead people to stop talking to her, no matter how politely she asks. It’s pretty frustrating being able to hear and see people that no one else can. For one thing, her friends and family think she’s going crazy. And for another, being spotted by your crush while talking to (seemingly) no one is positively mortifying. But Kendall is going to have to learn how to deal, because the only way to quiet the dead is to help them.'
Kendall, 12 year old has the ability to see ghosts and she helps them finish their business so that they can move on. She's been brought up by her father since her mother left when she was little.
It may sound like it's a scary read for kids but it is not. The way Lauren has set up the whole book is so much fun to read. I absolutely loved this book.
I loved this book! It was so cute and very juicy. My mom read it when she was younger and saved it for me. It is the perfect blend of scary and drama. It’s a great book I recommend!!
Have you ever felt that someones following you? Well in this story there's a girl named Kendall that where ever she goes there's always a ghost. Kendall has had a really hard time her mom left her when she was little so now its just her and her dad. She told her dad shes been seeing ghost since she was little but her dad didn't believe her.
This story is fiction and it takes places in Kendall´s school during math class and after school time. This story mostly talks about Kendall that she has been seeing ghost since she was a little girl. Her dad thought that since her mother left her shes been imagining ghost. Kendall is in 7th grade and in her math class there´s a boy named Brandon she has a crush on him. Kendall is best friends with Ellie Kendall also struggles in her math class she dons´t get math that well. In this story it deals with person vs fate because she try´s to get rid of the ghost that keep surrounding her but she cant she can hear , see , and she even talks to the ghost. The ghost that are around her even have names these ghost show up all of a sudden. The theme of this story is spooky because where ever Kendall is the ghost are always there.
The title of this story does relate to the story because Kendall does meet these ghost she talks to them and the ghost help her when she needs help. Kendall also try´s to get rid of them but she cant. The story helps establish the conflict because Kendall try´s to get rid of the ghost because they always ruined everything for her. Kendall has a huge crush on Brandon and she thinks she might get asked out by Brandon. The least Kendall needs is for the ghost to bother her and Brandon. One of the quote that I really liked of this book is when Kendall tried to give up on math class because she thought it was to late to change her grade. Brandon told her its never to late to start changing her grade. I really like this quote because it stands out to people and keeps them motivated.
I was moved when in the book it said that the ghost and Kendall are like friends when Kendall needs help the ghost are always there to help her. In the story it says that when Kendall was going to her study date with Brandon the ghost named Blond Gymnast told her if she wants to surprise Brandon than to go and reado her hair. If i were the author i would make the story more spooky by making the ghost scare Kendall all of a sudden. I think that would make the story more interesting and more spooky. This passage talks about the the feelings of Kendall how she feels when her mother left her when she was small. Kendall expressed her feelings in the story saying that she always wanted her mom to be with her so her mom could of givien her life lessons.
I rate this book 5 stars I rate it 5 stars because its a really good book and it's interesting by how the ghost follow Kendall where ever she goes and they show up all of a sudden. I would recommend this book to people who like awkward storys and kinda spooky stories. I really enjoyed this story because it shows all the feelings about Kendall how she felt when her mother left her and how she feels about the ghost. It also shows her feelings towards her crush Brandon and how he told Kendall that it was never to late to start thinking about her grades. I would recommend this book to anyone who like these type of stories I really did enjoy this book.
The story is about a girl, Kendall – a 12 year old 7th grader, who has the ability to see and talk to ghosts; it is her responsibility to help solve whatever mystery it is to help these misguided souls make the crossover to the other side. In this book Kendall is helping a misguided gymnast solve her mystery so she can move on... all the ghost knows is that her name is Daniella and leaves the rest to Kendall to figure out. Meanwhile while Kendall is trying to help Daniella, her love life starts to blossom with a cute boy name Brandon. Soon Kendall gets caught up juggling the real world and the paranormal world and to make matters worse Brandon’s mom - who is also a ghost – starts haunting Kendall telling her to get herself on the “Green List”.
The two stories flow nicely together making an interesting tween read and the book is squeaky clean. The ghost aspect of the story is told in a way where it would not frighten the younger audience. There is a cliffhanger ending and we have to wait until the next book to come out to find out why Brandon’s mom is sort of stalking Kendall and what this Green List is about.
Yes, I am into reading young adult or junior fiction. It's fun, easy and amusing. I laughed pretty hard a few times in here when I heard my own daughter in the main character and her friends as they discussed the indignity of weating a partcularly putrid shade of green nail polish. And that's only one funny moment in this peculiar story of Kendall and he tendency to see dead people and the stress this penchant places on her otherwise normally stressful teenage life.
Kendall not only has to deal with her fathers inability to be honest with her about his new relationship but her own confusing and new relationship with her crush, Brandon. When one of the ghosts she sees is Brandon's own dead Mother, she gets really freaked out.
I absolutely loved reading this book because it's written in Kendall's voice and she is completely charming. Barnholdt does a wonderful job of becoming a 12 year old faced with some interesting challenges who handles them with grace and courage, as well as humor.
I highly recommend this to young and old alike as a charming and humorous story that will leave you wanting more. The cliff hanger at the end is a doozie!
This book targets the middle grade crowd and one of my resolutions this year was to read more middle grade novels. In this book we meet Kendall, a tween girl who has the ability to see and talk to ghosts. It is her job to help the ghosts that approach her solve any unfinished business they might have left behind. Like it wasn’t already hard enough being an almost teenager, balancing school, her best friend, and her new crush, now Kendall has a couple of crazy ghosts following her around nagging her constantly to help them. In order to keep her secret a secret Kendall must help them and quick before the cutest boy in school, Brandon Dunham, thinks she has lost her mind completely!
This book was the absolute cutest thing ever! Kendall Williams is an absolute riot and I loved the way that her character development comes out in her voice and her interaction with her ghostly friends. I was constantly laughing out loud at Kendall and her odd ability to speak with the dead. She was your typical middle school girl, obsessed with the cutest boy in school, loves her best friend, Ellie, talks to ghosts, and does it all with really cute hairstyles. Okay, well maybe not your typical, average, every day middle school girl. Kendall is someone that I wish I could have been best friends with in middle school, and I think that young readers will relate to her very easily and possibly even look up to her. Barnholdt wrote her in a way that makes her seem odd and different, but Kendall was proud of whom she was and that is something that any twelve year old girl needs to believe about herself!
The ghostly aspect of this story was my favorite part and what I loved most about it was the fact that I don’t believe it would scare or frighten young readers. There was enough humor about it and Kendall made it seem like such an everyday occurrence for her that I just started to view the ghosts as imaginary friends. When we first meet Daniella, the first ghost she comes into contact with in this book, we see how easily ghosts can distract Kendall from her everyday life. Daniella was always doing flips or cartwheels in the corner and butting into Kendall’s conversations, especially ones with her crush. This part was so humorous to me because it was something that I was able to picture and in turn laugh hysterically at. I know that both young and older readers will enjoy this book! I hope this becomes a series because I think it would make an awesome one!
***A copy of this book was provided to me by the publishers at Aladdin in exchange for my honest and unbiased review***
Keeps you on the edge of your seat because you don't know when a ghost will show up and bother Kendall and what they will do to get her attention even though they can't harm her. Heartfelt that Kendall never knew her mom because she left their lives when she was very young. Kendall's dad keeps depending on their neighbor Cindy to give her female input every time Kendall wants to do something is very annoying and suspicious as to the status of their relationship ....are they more involved than Kendall knows about. I didn't know this was a series book and the end hook upset me that I had to get the next book to find out what happens with Brandon's mom's ghost after she catches Kendall kissing her son and Kendall looks up right afterwards and sees that his mom is glaring right at her as if she's upset about it. Nooooo.....it can't end right there, but it did : / Now I must get the next book in the series.
It was amazing. i loved the book so much. Jen and Daneilla were kind of rude though. And i cant belive Daneilla TOOK Jens boyfriend. Sad and romantic. Kyle was discusting also. but like i said, great book. and i'd love to read the 2nd book!!
Very cute, easy read. The author, Lauren Barnholdt, really nails the voice for Kendall (13 yr old girl). This may have been the thing I’d like to read when I was a young middle schooler - obsessed with the school drama, friends, boys, and fashion but still has a spooky plot. Kendall is an endearing and relatable main character.
This book is obviously part of a series, but the way it ended wasn’t quite satisfying. My personal opinion is that first books in a series (unless you are a best selling established author or it’s an epic fantasy) should function as a standalone and the further installments can build upon the world and this first novel almost achieves that but not quite.
Overall, it was fun, would maybe appeal to lower middle grade as it wasn’t very substantive plot-wise and focused a lot more on dating dramas than ghostly mystery than I expected.
You know that the main character of this book, Daniella, can see ghost and helps him solve his problems. This book is about Daniella that a ghost who likes to exercise is called Kendall. Kendall has a problem, she remember someone or something and now Daniella has to solve the problem of Kendall has. The setting of my book is at home and school. Daniella's house is big and comfortable like school. A style that the author uses is direct because Daniella always tells Kendall to stop calling her because she is bothering her. It is very easy to get angry with Daniella's attitude towards Kendall because Daniella only thinks of her and not of others. The story seemed very beautiful because we can reflect our problems with this story and improve.
This was an AWESOME book. While it having paranormal ghost stuff, it wasn’t scary ghosts. They were friendly ghosts that were actually nice to the main character, and they both helped people out. This book also contained teen problems like crushes, drama, etc. It was very fun and interesting to read!
Characters were exactly the way I was NOT as a teenager--so it made the story less enjoyable. Plus I got tired of the main character describing what she and everyone else was wearing down to the last detail. Again, not something I cared about as a teenager. Glad I'm done. Won't be reading the rest of the series.
Es una lectura muy entretenida. Me hizo reír mucho, amé a Kendall la protagonista, me parece que tiene carácter y afronta de una forma bastante madura hablar con fantasmas. Es una historia corta e ingeniosa y se lee rápido.
Girls meets ghost talks about a girl who sees ghosts. The ghosts need a task to complete so they can move on with their life. I loved this book because it talks about reality plus a little fantasy I recommend reading this book. It is one of my favorites.
Set in Briarwood Boston and narrated by twelve year old Kendall Williams. Seventh grade is challenging enough, but Kendall can see and communicate with ghosts.
I don’t care that I am a 29-year-old adult, sometimes I like to read Tween books.
The covers are always so cute, and honestly they are quick but good reads.
This book was no exception. It was cute, it was quick, and it had a great story line.
First of all I love that the ghost is an ex gymnast. I was a gymnast myself, and really anything with gymnastics still has a really soft spot in my heart. I loved the gymnastics talk and the fact that Kendall got to go to gymnastics meets.
The story line was also really good because there was a mystery to it. Not only does Kendall see and talk to ghosts but she is also required to figure out the mystery of what the ghost is telling her. Usually so the ghost can pass on.
This reminds me of a younger version of The Mediator Series by Meg Cabot.
Also there’s just something nice about reading this story. It reminds you of your childhood and what it was like to be that young. Very cute.
This is one author who I never have to book talk- her books just circulate- which, for girls, is a big deal- they tend to read series. This title is an adorable read- and not in a too-sweet way. Kendall has an accessory obsession, math grade stress, a strict but loving dad, and the requisite cute boy crush, and very realistically depicted. Her 7th grade life is made trickier than others because she can she- and communicate with- ghosts. They come to her for help in "passing over", regardless of what she's dealing with (dead cheerleader whining for attention while your math teacher's explaining quadratic equations? Kendall's got her plate full!) Ending hints at a sequel- I certainly hope so!!
