Hogging the Hunk by Rachael Eliker is another in the Button Blossom series and Milo Fox is the veterinarian there in Button Blossom. The initial chapter with Milo in the grocery store trying to buy feminine products for his soon-to-be-moving-in daughter was one of the funniest I’ve read. Eliker had it spot on. He and Ellie’s mother had not ever really gotten along. He had tried to to the right thing and had stayed in their lives. Then she had died and Ellie went to live with her grandparents, but now it was time for him to do his share. Him and a teenage daughter? He was not sure. In the opening scene, Beckett Kent helped him with his dilemma and offered to help with Ellie, without really knowing what she was offering. She had a boyfriend, or kind of had a boyfriend. They were on a break and he flitted in and out of her life. He was a doctor, too, and spent much time overseas doing charity work. She had been on his radar for a while, but her boyfriend and his lack of self-confidence held him back. Then, Ellie made him promise that there would be no wicked stepmother. He didn’t think Beckett would be wicked, but that was enough to make him back off.
This was truly a romantic comedy. I am not a laugher, but I laughed several times, and smiled a lot. It was a romance of missteps and poor communication. Most of the town was rooting for them, except for the other woman who wanted Dr. Foxy, as they called him, for themselves. His receptionist and her grandmother were in on it. It was funny, full of well-written characters with plenty of personality. The plot was not tremendously complicated, but satisfying. I was happy at the end of it. That means a lot.
