Alan Winnington (1910-1983) was press officer of the Communist Party of Great Britain, then chief sub-editor of The Daily Worker, later its principal foreign correspondent. He visited Tibet as the guest of the two Grand Lamas of Tibet and the Chinese Government so had wide access to both official and unofficial personalities.
