Filly and Fergal's parents argued more than any other parents. When they have the biggest argument of all time, they finally bring the house down. Trapped under the rubble, Filly and Fergal escape with the help of the magical meteorite spoon to a fantasy island - Honeymoonia.
Managed to find this book of years of wondering, "What's that book I read as a kid with the spoon that dug holes for you to scream into? I could use it. (The spoon)." I wasn't the most literate kid to say the least but I was a massive goth so I expect the illustrations won me over.
I also read a lot of Bruce Covile around that time (I Left My Sneakers In Dimension X) and think I must have been getting the two mixed up a bit - I wasn't prepared for all the South East England "Brov" and "Sis" which grated a bit, but probably the type of thing you find endearing and cool as a kid, so no judgement right now for that. I don't know how to review a kids book that you've just re-read at almost thirty.
A wonderful children's book about Filly and Fergal whose parents can't stop arguing. Full of imagination and humour with excellent illustrations, this is one of the books I remember from my childhood so I'm so happy I rediscovered it!
This was my absolute all time favourite books growing up! I've lost count just how many times I have read it over the years! I'm now 32 and still occasionally revisit and even recently read to my 8yr old! Amazing!
This was a book that we read during reading time at school. It's a simple read, obviously, but very nostalgic. I love the simple love story that runs throughout and the crazy life of the mum and dad at present time.
Definitely good with kids who are starting out to read full books by themselves as there are lots of interesting pictures too.
Another enjoyable fantasy read that had a very funny storyline and would go down well with younger children. The book could be used as a whole class text from year 1-3 then year 4 upwards would also enjoy the story during independent reading. It features lots of great themes that children can relate to, such as sibling relationships and parents arguing/divorce.
Brilliant story for kids about kids with parents which argue too much! Great moral, good simple writing, fascinating story. Loved this book and still got excited when i picked it up recently!! Oh the original titles is Meteorite spoon.
