The solid bones of these poems form a fabulous framework to this collection. From Page 3 Poems that stretch from Western Sydney to outer Sydney regions to Inheriting Columbo which envoke exotic Sri lanka there is a biting clarity. Particular poems named after towns I know well delighted me in The Waters section of this collection- Old Jindabyne:Flood; Old Adaminaby:Drought; Pacific Song; and Ulladulla The Poem dedicated to the firestorm desecration of Kinglake, where a number of people died during the Black Saturday fires, broke my heart. A brilliant contemporary collection. It's no surprise that Fiona Wright wins as many Australian awards for her poetry as she does. Look forward to reading more of her work.
I've hit the library renew limit on this baby, so time to take it from my coffee table where its been living so that I can leisurely pick it up and read a few poems whenever I feel like and send it back to the Canberra cadets.
