This was a good and fun read, with some elements of a charmed style, sisterhood of witches and shifters and some rather terrifying monsters. But what would normally feel maybe not realistic but at least believable as in the world is strong to compel you to believe in the story, to me it just fell flat. I found myself getting a headache with the on, off and on relationship between deme and cal and also in the other book it gets worse because a shifter falling in love with one of the sisters. I just found myself getting annoyed with the main characters and their alarming out look on people and occasional stupidity. It’s a just a spicy book with some magic elements to it.

Book Review: A Hex Gone Wrong

🌪️✨🔮🧌☄️🐉🧹🍄

The Witches Initiation.

Mills & Boon kindly send me this book as part of their #romanceyoursummer campaign! Firstly, before I begin writing this review I would like to say a huge thank you to Mills & Boon for this opportunity. This was my first ever book mail send to me from a publishing company so I was super grateful that Mills & Boon decided to select me as one of the lucky people to receive one of their books. I decided to select something that I’ve never read before so that this review can be as genuine as possible, the book I decided to choose was a paranormal romance called A Hex Gone Wrong by Elle James. This was my first time reading a paranormal romance and let’s just say this book took me by surprise (in a good way). A Hex Gone Wrong is two books in one, which in my opinion made it more exciting. Sometimes when I read the first book in a series, I’m dying to read the next and it’s either not out yet or I simply just don’t own it, but with this book I was able to jump straight in to the sequel. Along with A Hex Gone Wrong, Mills & Boon also sent me a pad and pen which helped me document notes throughout the book. The first book in this two in one read was called The Witches Initiation. This book follows the five Chattox sisters who are witches and an undercover police officer called Cal who has history with the oldest sister called Deme. One of the Chattox sisters go missing without a trace and that’s where Cal steps in to work alongside the sisters to help find their youngest sibling called Aurai, in the meantime Cal and Deme become reunited and simply cannot deny their attraction and existing feelings they have for each other. This book started amazingly, the thing I loved most throughout this read was that the chapters always end in such a suspenseful manner, making you NEED to read on. After only a couple of chapters in, I already loved and related to the female main character, Deme. In my opinion, Deme represents being the oldest sibling so well, she was protective, independent and always put her family above herself. As a girl who only has one brother, it was lovely to read about how strong sisterhood can be, the Chattox sisters always come together without fail when one sister is in need. In order to save Aurai they had to go undercover to find her which is exactly what they did alongside Cal. Even though Cal and Deme have romantic history, he is unaware that the Chattox sisters are witches. When Cal and Deme dated previously Deme couldn’t pluck up the courage to tell Cal about her witchcraft which led to her running out on him after he had proposed to her and didn’t speak or see each other until Aurai went missing. This book is packed with drama and will definitely keep you on your toes! This book had a little bit of everything, drama, romance, spice!, paranormal activity, sisterhood, character development and crime, and yet everything was rounded off perfectly, there was nothing left at the end of this book that didn’t make sense. The epilogue was short but sweet and gave us the perfect insight into what to expect from the next book.

Possessing the Witch.

Book two in a Hex Gone Wrong is called Possessing the Witch which follows another one of the Chattox sisters called Selene, Selene is telepathic which means she can read peoples thoughts and also transfer thoughts into others peoples minds. One night Selene gets a premonition and finds a shape shifter called Gryph injured next to a river. With help from her sister Deme, she was able to take Gryph back to her home to heal his injuries. Before Selene found Gryph, he was caught up in a fight with a wolf shapeshifter to prevent the attack of an innocent woman, sadly throughout all of Gryph’s efforts the woman passed away a few days later in the hospital because the wolf shifter suffocated her. After finding out that the woman had passed away, Selene, her sisters, Cal and Gryph came together to track down the killer of this innocent woman. After the first three chapters, you really started to see how strong the chemistry was between Gryph and Selene. I was obsessed with them and their character traits, they bounced off each other and just made perfect sense together. There was a lot of twists and turns in this book that I was not expecting which I found so entertaining. There was quite a few bumps in the road for Selene and Gryph because Gryph thought that Selene was just an average “surface dweller” that he simply couldn’t fall in love with. A “surface dweller is what Gryph and his shapeshifter family call the people that walk and live on the surface as his family live in the tunnels underground. It is revealed throughout the book that Gryph lives two lives, he grew up/lives in the tunnels with his family but he is also a successful business owner of a company called GL Enterprise in order to provide for his family in the tunnels. This book was very eventful and fast paced, the ending was wholesome but at the same time concluded everything that it needed to. The plot twist towards the end was nothing that you would expect from the start of this book, I’m still taken aback at who the killer was and how well it was executed by the author. As well as the first book this book had a little bit of everything, drama, romance, spice (even more than the first🫢) ,romance, paranormal activity and loads of character development. I thoroughly enjoyed reading A Hex Gone Wrong and won’t be hesitating to pick up the other books in this series if I happen to see them in the shops.

Thank you to the publisher Mills & Boon for sending me a copy to read and review!

I just want to start this review off by saying how steamy these books were? I seriously was not expecting it. I’m also going to review the two books contained in this bind up separately. My rating for the bind up may also change as i gave the first book a 4 star rating and the second a 3 star rating. So I’m sort of in between the two.

The Witch’s Initiation - 4 ⭐️
At first I wasn’t a huge fan of the romance but towards the end it definitely grew on me! The highlight of this book was definitely the plot. I was absolutely obsessed. I sort of half guessed what was going on but I was still thoroughly surprised and entertained throughout. I really recommend reading this one during Halloween as it definitely gives the best spooky/witchy vibes.

Possessing The Witch - 3 ⭐️
Oddly enough I preferred the romance in this book compared to the first but I thought the plot was weaker. This definitely doesn’t mean I didn’t like it as i did thoroughly enjoy it. I felt as though it was really rushed at the end. It felt anti climatic as I did guess the big plottwist and I felt as though the “big reveal” was too rushed as it happened about 20 pages from the end. I will however say that I was shook when I found out how the mmc connected to the first book. Mind blown.

tropes:
- second chance romance (first book)
- strangers to lovers (second book)
- open door (both books)

Two books in One!

The Witch's Invitation - Cal and Deme's Story

Possessing The Witch - Gryph and Selene's Story

Two Witchy romances with comedy, sass and magic. And of course a sprinkling of that spice we all know and love.

I think my favourite of the two was Cal and Deme, though I loved both. The second Chance Romance was perfectly done and mixed with a witchy investigation with a healthy moral that drove the story.

Gryph and Selene were a fiery match from the start, and I really enjoyed the uniqueness of the shifter not being a wolf which is the norm for a paranormal romance.

I love what we have seen of the other sisters and cannot wait to read their story, especially Bridgid, she seems like a firecracker!

Pretty much will read anything witchy and enjoyed both these books and found them very easy to read. I definitely didn’t expect the levels of spice ha!

I did find that in the second book this ‘on and off again’ relationship was a bit ridiculous given it was really only a matter of days so felt a little dramatic from the characters. And the identify of the black wolf was glaringly obvious.

Spoiler alert
I thought it was obvious who Gryph was from the start given the end of the first book. But I could have sworn Dr Richardson died in the battle with the Chimera in book one yet two years later was alive for the end of book two? Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick in book one but I was disappointed at the end of two.

As soon as I see a witchy romance I have to read it. I don't know what it is about them but they always have me hooked and this collection did not disappoint. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I flew through these two books and I quickly found myself loving the Chattox sisters who are all so badass and I loved the idea that each had their own magical abilities. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I love the tension and chemistry between our couples and it was the perfect amount of spice! I now need to read the rest of this series!⁣
