I can't really tell who this was written for. At points it seems like it was written for beginners, with pictures and detailed descriptions of how to grip the bow and the string. The act of drawing a recurve bow was split into three chapters to make it easy to understand. At the same time, the chapter on buying the right equipment and tuning discussed how to tune the bow without defining half the terms or even providing a diagram pointing out the most important pieces of the bow. Sometimes the book seemed to be geared towards children, with a focus on how to fit practice in with school and lots of focus on parents as part of the support team, but the later chapters discussed travelling to out of town tournaments as if it was something the archer could do on their own. There also seemed to be a very strong expectation that the reader was an archer (or aspiring archer) who was looking for or already working with a coach. Then there was a chapter on how to develop young archers and an appendix on how to train para-archers, something that only a coach would need.

There are useful pieces of information in this book, but its focus on Olympic style competitions and it baffling inability to select an audience make it a frustrating slog at times. Honestly, this book is probably less helpful than the myriad of online resources available now.

Definitely a must for anyone starting this sport--just like me. I am learning and confirming what many people have noted when they see me shoot. Nice to know I am in the right track...Although I am working with compound bows now--I am also looking forward to learn recurve. Definitely a lot to learn and practice.

So many things to know, confirm and practice---A must read for new shooters....like myself.
