I got this at a car boot sale years ago for 50p, but it was a great buy. Yes, I know it's a bit out of date, but great for someone interested in fact based biblical archaeology. It's an encyclopaedia of near eastern archaeology, with entries on places with their archaeological history and biblical references, peoples/tribes (e.g. Hivites, Kassites) notable literature (like the Enuma Elish and the Samaritan ostraca), personalities (e.g. Suppiluliumas, Hammurabi), and topical entries such as Jewellery, metallurgy. A great book to dip into. I never had the gift of faith, as my nan would say, but I have always had intellectual curiosity about religion, and this is just the book for that.
