Here's what Chat GPT had to say:
This book was just okay. The layout was a bit cluttered and difficult to follow at times. The content seemed to be comprehensive, but there were some inaccuracies that were frustrating. Overall, it served its purpose as a textbook, but it wasn't particularly engaging or enjoyable to read.

(prompt:
"
Can you write a two-star review for the following book:
IB Biology Course Book: 2014 Edition: Oxford IB Diploma Program (Paperback)
")

It was probably accurate, but I wasn't really able to tell since I didn't actually read it. I just have no intention of returning.

Since the IB books have been most of what I've recently read, I thought I may as well give myself credit on Goodreads for reading these books. :D This is my favorite textbook. This book is full of knowledge so precious and mind-blowing that I am surprised by how few students actually read through this book properly. Andrew writes with detail and expertise and it is him who I credit for finding my passion for biology.

spoiler alert : theres alot of content
in honor of my finally finishing all my notes for the international baccy course, this review is written and the book is officially added to my goodreads account. yes i know the exam is in two days i just finished option c (recency effect yk i am also a psych kid) (i am not that last minute of a studier for everything ok)

favourite character, probably rosalind franklin, shoutout her x-ray chrystallography shes a real one
favourite storyline probably chapter six, digestion is lowkey interesting im not gonna lie
as for the optional storylines at the end, option c was a good one, i have just reviewed the nitrogen cycle, carbon cycle and phosphorus cycle for what feels like the 79th time this century.

however,
in my honest opinion the chapter three sections and chapter seven chapters were not my thing, i didnt think the storyline was that good, i think some of the characters were quite ingenius as to how they approached obstacles presented in the plot (mendel) but personal opinion it wasn't it (i literally just cannot understand genetics and nucleic acids im so sorry)

all in all, dont forget to read the command terms i lost seven marks on the mocks because of this. the text book was actually kinda helpful in my review, so thank you. also carrying around the book made me feel smart. thats besides the point.

all the best to my fellow ib biology takers future, past and present,
a pre 2023 cohort exam HL bio kid

honestly the best textbook i used this year. info is clear and concise, though there is repetition between the SL and HL segments which I guess is fine for reiteration. I feel it really prepped me well for the exam and I barely had to use outside resources. also green boxes, large fonts, and diagrams meant 20 pages actually was only about 6 pages. god bless that was incredible.

Everytime I read this book I feel this sense of dread come over my soul. I feel as if I am being watched by Andrew Allott. I fear that I will not understand what in the literal **** he is saying and then his spirit will berate me for not understanding. However, it is still kinda better than my other ones. Better than the TOK one, that is for darn sure. I have no actual memory of reading this textbook, only the emotions stuck with me, especially fear, sadness, anger, fear, frustration, fear, dismay, pain, torture, suffering, disgust, dread, and horror. Nevertheless, I loved my teacher. She was a sweetums, but the book helped to a certain extent. Now you may ask, "To what extent did it help. [6 marks]" well you can answer that yourself. Freaking IB.

Rating txtbooks for fun:
Had an awful bullshit “teacher” who taught us absolutely nothing. Never rlly read the textbook but used it to take required notes so ig that counts bc we had to takes notes on literally every paragraph of this goddamned book. If I could’ve kept the book to burn and still have graduated I would. Still got my diploma tho so it’s all good. We’ll see if we get our ib diploma lol.
