Maeve Corrigan, once a successful businesswoman and resolutely independent, is dying. Having no children of her own, she determines that she will bequeath her great wealth to one of several nephews or nieces, the offspring of her two estranged brothers. And so, she arranges to meet three of them: Kate, a young woman whose family lives the other side of the world, in Australia, and who is suffering from debilitating illness. Against her parents' wishes, she seizes the challenge laid down by her aunt, and travels to England. Mitch Corrigan is the son of Maeve's ruthless brother Des, a man who will trample over anyone to get his way, whose wife, Judith has recently walked out on him. As Maeve's dying wish is revealed to each of these three people, a new future opens up before them, with the promise ofa whole new family...

Anna reads 3 novels a week. Happy reading, everyone.
Audio book. Free download on Audible. I enjoyed this story of a dysfunctional, very rich, family. Money did buy happiness in most cases, as even serious health conditions were addressed swiftly and effectively via private treatments. The characters were well rounded , even the ‘villains’ weren’t all bad, and everyone got a happy ending to a greater or lesser extent, as they deserved. I haven’t read anything by Anna Jacobs before but will look out for other audio books by her in the future.
This is a lovely book, and the landscape is a character too. Great story. But why are the men in this book, as in others, either complete ... searching for a politically correct word... @!#@#! .... or dense dopes, groping in the dark, unaware of themselves and others ... preoccupied by their work to the point of lunacy, living in denial, shipwrecked when there's a crisis on hand.... oh dear. Not all of them are twerps (temporarily), some are superb... (Why do I get so intense about these stories!) All goes to making this highly readable and enjoyable. Thank you Anna Jacobs, made my day.
I struggled at the beginning with so many names to remember and who done what, but as I got into the book I settled to the names. Well done another amazing book I wanted to read until the end.
I hope there is more Corrigan tales. A bit confusing sometimes. But I got to know the Corrigans well. So will definitely remember them all in the next book.
This was a very interesting read about Maeve Corrigan and how she wants to dispurse of her legacy upon her immienent death. she wants to give it to one of her brother's children since she had no children of her own. Therefor she tracks them down and comes to know them each helping several of them out of personal crisis and comes to love them. They love her in return due to her personality and a great bond develops. One of the children is a twenty something year old woman who has developed flu-like symptoms that have left her incapatitated and unable to work. She finally finds that she has Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and the doctors in her little Austrlian town don't know how to treat it. Her Aunt finds out and offers her a chance at new health, by offering for her to come to England and have treatment there. This really grabbed my attention because I've had CFIDS in some formm or another for about twenty years along with Fibromyalgia. I knew about the wheat allergy "thing" and even tried to go off of wheat for a while, but it was so difficult!
I really enjoy Anna Jacobs' novels and this one has not disappointed! Her characters are realistic and her plots are believable. I wonder if she has written a sequel, I would like to know what happens next.
Another excellent book from Anna Jacobs. A standalone novel with lots of characters and fast moving. Audio narration was also excellent with the need to use various accents and voice a mix of adults and children's voices. Highly recommended as a gentle but exciting story.
