Just when you think it’s safe to stop looking over your shoulder…

When Stella Redman’s abusive ex-boyfriend, “Tick,” appears out of nowhere hell-bent on turning her into a hood ornament, she doesn’t stick around to ask why. She runs hard and fast, looking for a friendly door.

Lucky for her, the door belongs to WD Security, and the man who sends Tick packing—and bleeding—is Lucas Adler, a square-jawed ex-cop with deadly accurate aim, a talent for making Stella develop an embarrassing tendency to babble, and a baffling ability to win over her shy three-year-old son.

Asking nothing in return but her trust that he’ll keep her safe, Lucas brings all WD’s resources to bear to give Stella some much-needed breathing room. But men like Tick don’t give up easily. And it only takes one moment of believing her troubles are over for that illusion to go up in flames…

So Good

I adore how this author links each series to the next with different characters from one series showing up in another series. Avery, Seven, and Dixon actually appear in all three of the series I’ve read. They, of course, are more prominent in their own series. But they do have good roles in each. All three of the series, that I’ve read, contain mystery, adventure , and romance. These books are not descriptive about the romance aspect, beyond kissing. So they are good for anyone to read including older teens. I’ve loved every book I’ve read which includes all 33 books in the Florida Keys Mysteries aka The Paradise Series. I’m eagerly awaiting book 34 and more. 😁 There are so many wonderful characters there and I’m invested in their “lives”. 😀. If you love a good mystery with a side of adventure and romance, with a healthy dose of snark, then you will love any of Deborah Browns books. I can’t recommend them enough.

Running From Trouble
This book is the second in a series of cozy mysteries set in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. These are clean stories with no blood, or sex and minimal violence. This story involves a woman running from an abusive boyfriend while trying to protect her son. The story takes on some great twists as our main character is taken in by a group of security experts, their wives, and their mothers. Although this is a cozy mystery, it doesn't go all obsessive about fashion, food, books or anything else like other cozies do. I have really enjoyed these first two books and can't wait for the third book to be published!

Stella Redman is running away from her abusive ex.
He tried to run smash her car into a light pole, run her over after she ran away and is trying to kidnap her.
She somehow ran to the right place and the WD security agency.
Luke Adler, the expo who runs the agency sees what is happening and grabs her, pulls her inside the building and stops the ex- from running after her.
Her ex is nicknamed Tick. He is a psycho who believes she did him wrong and starts to ruin her life.
Turns out, he is a drug dealer and has a rap sheet.
Luke is determined to keep her safe.
He has a security agency after all.
A real roller coaster ride.
Keeps you guessing!

Almost a 3

I liked the story line and the characters. However this was a lot of telling but not a lot of showing. She mentioned how her son was not outgoing but took these people like 20 times.
I would have liked to to see his POV. The ending just happened. No epilogue so we don’t see the future at all.
Would I like to see what happens to some of the other characters, yes. Will I keep going no I will not. I almost DNF because it was so much telling.

Loved it! Stella and Lucas have a slow burn romance. The mystery is the main part of the story. She has the best behaved preschooler I have ever encountered. A mother that no one would want. But Stella doesn’t whine, she moves forward. For women who have picked themselves up and moved on.

Lots of Improbabilities!

I’m not a fan of a story told in first person by only one character. There were many strange moments where people laughed when nothing was funny. Wasn’t a big fan of Stella — she had some flake moments. I did like the guys especially Lucas.

Good Story

I’ve never read anything by this author but that is about to change. I enjoyed this story. The characters are well rounded, the story is fast pace and full of misdirections. This was the perfect read for a lazy Sunday.

I like Deborah Brown books! However, this book seemed like Stella and Lucas were a little too lovey dovey too soon after they met.

Just ok. There were points in the book that just didn’t make sense. Nothing, not even a kiss, between the MC’s until the very end. It’s a shame, I thought the writing was pretty good
