In a forgotten abbey in the American West, a great evil has remained trapped, hidden from human eyes for hundreds of years...until now. A team of Vatican researchers have discovered the Domas Porada, a sarcophagus that holds the spirit of the fallen angel Temozarela. With the help of frontier priest Ivan Isaacs, they have opened it. Big mistake. Freed from centuries of captivity, Temozarela can at long last begin his desecration of God’s Earth, but in his weakened state he needs the help of his unholy apostles. In order to fight back, the dying Ivan must make a pact with the devil Belial for a second chance at life. Ivan only wanted proof of God’s existence―what he got instead was eternal damnation.
Reviewing my reads from years past, I felt that I've outgrown this title. Thus, it is among the first to join my first ever Culling, in the hopes to free up valuable shelf space for more important and worthwhile books.
Beautiful well written novel! This is the final of the back story, and now the stage is set! The curtain has been lifted, and the anguish of Ivan Isaacs is set to be unleashed. Beautiful novel!
This 7th volume is all about plot consolidation and back story, mainly dealing with how Isaac becomes the 'priest' of the title - after the sacrifice of his beloved Gena, having nothing left to lose he makes a pact with the devil Belial (who had indeed been corrupted priest Betheal as I suspected) in order to defeat rebel angel Temozarela.
There's very little new material here that you won't have worked out from the previous 6 volumes. The only real new addition is the fact that Gena gets turned into a zombie-vampire and Isaac has to slay her, otherwise its simply drawing together threads that we're already familiar with. It does reintroduce some of Termozarela's evil disciples (the twelve) whom we haven't seen for several volumes, which brings us nicely back to the present (American West) where I presume volume 8 will take off from.
Fascinating multi-time period story with very stylish angular artwork. This isn't the best volume, but it does a good job of ending the really long back-story flashback.
Actually 3.5 stars and I rated it 4 because there were some magical bloody themes in it. This book increased the blasphemous words YAY. and also what happened errrrmm.... just cool fighting scenes I guess many bloody action lovers will DIE for this book, but I'm not a lover and I also don't mind them. The book was cool CANT WAIT for the next volume.
really good, but even though this one is the origins of Ivan Isaacs as the zombie-killing priest, it's somewhat of a lull in the story. But overall I can see why this book is so expensive every I look--because it's how he transitioned from good priest to bad priest. I really liked it and can't wait to get the rest of the series.
Poor, poor Ivan. This is what Hellraiser warned us about! And Pandora. And other stuff about opening up boxes with scary evil stuff inside. We are closing the gap on this extended flashback. Looking forward to reading more of the "now" stuff!
