ReBorn: Second Chances

Rate this book
Another evil enterprise
Another chance for virtue
----
In the wake of Grayson Jeffer’s “ReSet,” America’s few remaining citizens have been subjected to a total-surveillance system. Under the leader’s all-seeing eye, each community must work together to avoid bad behavior . . . for if too many “marks” are accrued, the citizens will be wiped out. All for the greater good.
----
Now—in a twist of fate befitting the twisted times—“Picture-Perfect” Charlie Newsome and Tommy Tankerson, the tortured trouble-maker who single-handedly brought about two ReSets, are compelled to join forces.

Utopian has fallen—largely due to Tommy’s handiwork—but Charlie’s resourceful father, Alford, doesn’t intend to let his people go down without a fight. Having gone off-grid, they’re now true rebels. Undertopian.

“Picture-Perfect” and “Tommy the Tank” must venture to Alpha, Grayson’s home base, where Charlie’s sister, Katie, is held. To free her and somehow secure salvation, they’ll need many miracles, starting with . . . friendship.

Just as many spelling and grammatical errors as the first one, with a side order of plot holes. 3 stars because the storyline is actually a good concept, otherwise, it would have been 2. This almost seemed as if the author should have re-read their work all the way through before publishing, as there seemed to be several inconsistencies that could have easily been fixed with a quick re-read.

It's never easy to write a sequel, especially one following a fantastic debut book. But ReBorn checks all the sequel boxes and then some. This book will grab you right from the start and it will NOT let go. You want a roller coaster of emotions filled with a fantastic cast of characters, a gripping narrative filled with twists, and ever-increasing tension capped off with a finale as action packed as it is heartfelt? You're certainly in the right place.

Minor spoilers here: Picking up where ReSet left off, this book fulfils the promise left by its predecessor's cliffhanger: Charlie Newsome and Tommy Tankerson take the lead in this book, as they head off on an impossible mission to rescue Katie Newsome from Grayson Jeffers. Grayson Jeffers, who, by the way, is a terrifyingly brilliant antagonist. Charlie and Tommy's evolving friendship was my favorite part of this book. It didn't feel forced or rushed. It developed naturally through what they were forced to endure. And everything that comes from that friendship feels earned. I also really enjoyed Katie's expanded role in this book, and I hope she continues to have a major role. Many of the supporting characters from ReSet got a similar treatment, and I found myself enjoying all of their stories. So much care was put into each and every one of them. The story is absolutely fantastic here, but it's the characters that really shine. Each of their motivations, choices, and emotions are so well woven into the narrative, and I absolutely love that kind of storytelling. It's so well done here.

All that to say, I can't wait to read more from these characters and this world! ReBorn is everything that ReSet was and even more. I have a feeling this story is just getting started, and I'm in for the wild ride. If you think you might love an action-packed, gripping Dystopian narrative with a wonderful cast of characters, this story (and the first book, ReSet) is definitely for you.

3 1/2 rounded up to 4 stars

In my opinion this would have been a great duology. However ReSet and ReBorn should have been only one book. I want a third book but mainly because it would (hopefully) answer my of my questions as a reader from the first book.

Would I recommend this series to others? Absolutely if they’re looking for a good, quick dystopian series from an indie author. One major thing I noticed that was missing from the first book that seemed to be relatively addressed in the second book, was the lack of diversity in the characters. It felt that majority of the 500 people saved by Jeffers were white. We got to see some diversity in ReBorn. I’m curious to know if that was intentional (from Jeffers POV) or in general what Jeffers qualifying factors were to make the cut.

I also really appreciated Tommy’s plot twist. I felt like it gave his character more depth that was truly lacking from the first book. And I love a good redemption story. I think it gave me a little empathy towards DeeDee’s character a bit, too.

Overall great read! I wish more of my burning questions were answered because I have so many questions about the U.S. before, how Jeffers pulled it off, the integration, how people were chosen, and the rest of the world’s reaction.

I read ReSet and Jumped right into ReBorn!! Oh Em Gee. This could be a long series if Mrs. Loy allows her imagination to continue!

The story line was full of twists and turns again!

Character backgrounds and descriptions are priority in the book, with the plot an extremely close second. With that said the plot is AMAZING, so that means the characters are even better. Savannah has a knack for description as well, and she would bring me personally into the scene she was describing.

Another cliffhanger at the end of this one, however, if the series stopped here, the end of this book is so that it could.**** personally I hope it doesn't end***

Now, Savannah.. do me and all of your loyal readers a favor.. keep writing. Looking forward to more about the new world!!

There is much left to the reader to imagine in this book, some will love it, maybe some won't. I am not accustomed to using mine, so it challenged me at times, but Savannah herself encouraged us to do this in her forward!

Quick read, amazing concept, much to build on for the future.. Be Good.. your life depends on it! 😊

A great follow-up to book 1 ReSet. This book will grab you from the start, and make you want to keep turning the pages until it’s finished. I read the whole thing in one day!
We got to see more of Tommy and Charlie in this one, with the story picking up where ReSet left off with them on a mission to rescue Charlie’s sister Katie.

Similarly to the first book, I would have liked a little bit more about the history of the World re-order and effects it had on the people left. It was touched upon but I would have liked more. That’s the reason I’ve given it 4stars and not 5. I also noticed a couple of minor inconsistencies, but nothing enough to stop me enjoying the book!

I would recommend any fans of YA dystopian pick both ReSet and ReBorn up, you won’t regret it.

Book one left us with a horrible cliffhanger. I was NIT expecting the same with ReBorn! The ReSet cliffhanger was BRUTAL, but it was SOO worth the wait. ReBorn was a roller coaster of emotions. There were times when I was sitting in the edge of my seat, because it was so intense.

ReBorn gives us the answers to the all import questions we have from ReSet and thrusts us into the the demented mind of Grayson Jeffers. New friends, Charlie and Tommy have to work together to save Katie and Utopian. Will they survive the chances they are forced to take?

Really good sequel to ReSet! Lots of action and back stories added in. Loved Tommy’s involvement this time and the relationship building with everyone! There is humor, suspense, heartbreak, happiness and so much more. Major cliffhanger at the end or…. Decide your own ending. Could go either way. Definitely glad I read it!
