Denise Hunter is the award-winning author of more than 40 novels, three of which have been adapted into Hallmark movies.
Denise writes heartwarming, small-town romances, peopled with layered characters who have real-life issues. Her readers enjoy the vicarious thrill of falling in love and the promise of a happily-ever-after sigh as they savor the final pages of her books.
In 1996, Denise began her first novel, writing while her children napped. Two years later it was published, and she's been writing ever since. Her books contain a strong romantic element, and her husband says he provides all her romantic material, but Denise insists a good imagination helps too!
Denise and her husband live in Indiana, where they raised three sons, and are currently enjoying an empty nest and four beautiful grandchildren.

Emily Wagner had made friends through the mail with Thomas Manning, amd now she was going by stage coach to meet him and be married. She was in for a great shock when she was met by his brother, Cade, who informed that Thomas had been killed in an accident. Cade informed her that he would marry her, but it would be in name only; and she would help raise his son by his wife who passed and run the house. Emily felt she had no choice due to pressure from her Uncle who was holding her grandmother in bondage unless he did something for him while she was in Kansas. Can Cade, his son Adam, and Emily build a happy family; and can she save her grandmother from her awful Uncle?
A touch of romance, a little bit of mystery, and a well written western all come together to make an enjoyable story.
This was one book in a series that took us to Cedar Grove, Kansas. It was fun to follow brides from past books as they interacted with this new bride. The storyline was great. Very original and kept me glued to the pages just to see what happens next. Definitely a sign of a great book! I'd love one more book that brought all the brides together to update us on all that's going on in their lives.... maybe for Beth's wedding?
Emily travels from Denver to Cedar Springs, Kansas to marry her friend Thomas. She's never met him but they wrote letters for a couple of years. On her arrival she's met by his brother Cade and told that Thomas had died in an accident two days earlier. Cade has a five year old son who needs a mother (she died giving birth to Adam) so Cade decides to marry Emily rather than send her back. He's still grieving his wife so it's a marriage in name only, which he doesn't bother to tell Emily until they are already married. Emily has a secret that she keeps from Cade. Her unscrupulous uncle demands she find a map that leads to gold that was stolen by his grandfather and Cade's grandfather. He's threatening to send Emily's grandmother to an asylum if Emily doesn't come through with the gold. I enjoyed this novella.
I loved the real life feelings that are betrayed in this story! Her fears, her love, her conflicting emotions! Her desire to seek God, but afraid to truly trust Him enough to obey Him. While our situations are all different, I think most of us can relate! The TRUTH will set us free, but is that because we confessed, or because our sin was discovered? As Luke 12:3 says, "Accordingly, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops."
Loved this book. A couple who marries only of convenience and still has secrets for one another, they overcome their problems. When an accident happens, they will finally realize their true feelings. I personally love stories of people who either marry of convenience and then come to care for each other or married couples who go through a rough patch and overcome that too. This book was right up my ally! Loved every minute of it.
His Brother’s Bride by Denise Hunter was a nice story. This was the 4th book in the series (Kansas Brides) and the first one I’ve read. I don’t usually like to read series books out of order but I don’t feel I missed out by reading the last one first. I enjoyed the storyline with a bit of suspense and romance.

Had a really hard time rating / reading this (almost ended up a DNF) - Emily's character is so stupid it just grated on me the whole time I was reading - I like my heroines to have a little more backbone to them - if I had to read one more time how much she wanted children but was now in a marriage of convenience or how she was sent there to find treasure for her evil uncle to save her Nana so she married a man she had never met "BUT" she loves him and thinks everything will be peaches and cream after her deception ... I might have poked my eyeballs out! Story starts to get a bit better at the end so I did bump it to 2 stars.
Emily arrives in Cedar Springs expecting to be met by her fiance - a man she has never met except through their letters. She is met by his brother, Cade, who gives her the devastating news that Thomas was killed in a accident two days previous. Later, Cade, a widower with a young son, impulsively asks Emily to marry him. Emily agrees and they are married. What Emily doesn't tell Cade is that she has a secret. She had pursued a relationship with Thomas for one reason. There is hidden treasure on Cade's ranch and Emily must find it to insure her grandmother's well-being.
Emma was caught between her uncle's demands and making a life for herself in another town. Her husband to be was dead n his brother married her so she could be a mother for Adam while he worked the farm. The uncle was holding Emma's nanna freedom by setting her the task of finding a map n gold their grandfathers had hidden. Cade was coming around to seeing how his life was now running smoothly with Emma being a good mother n wife in all areas except giving Emma her wish of having her own baby. Caves can be dangerous places and Emma finds this out with nearly her life.
I thoroughly enjoyed all these books in the series, including this one. Well written , good characters and no over--the-top romance. God is a part of my entire life which includes my fiction reading so I appreciate finding an author that has combined God with quality writing. Unfortunately it sounds like the author has "toned down" the religious aspects in her newer books which is disappointing to me.
Not my favorite Denise Hunter book, but a good story about working through adversity and deceit and finding God can heal situations and hearts that are hurting. A nice finale to the Kansas Brides series.
Interesting premise disappointing, overly simplistic The characters aren't developed at all. Nothing remarkable at all about this book. I don't know that I'll read another by this author.
