Arn Anderson: My Life As The Enforcer is a graphic novel published by Source Point Press written by Dirk Manning and Arn Anderson with art by Colm Griffin and Shawn Daley.
My Life As The Enforcer recounts the life of Martin Anthony Lundy, better know as professional wrestler Arn Anderson. The story tells his humble beginnings in Rome, Georgia when he stumbled upon the life of a wrestling. He spent many years traveling the territories while perfecting his craft until he hit big as the founder of the Four Horsemen.
I loved reading all the history of Arn’s early life. I was actually shocked to learn that Arn is not actually related to Ole Anderson and that isn’t even his real name! There is always something to learn in the world of professional wrestling! The art in the book is cartoony but does a fantastic job of capturing the likenesses of all the top 80s stars.
If I had one complaint, is that I wanted more stories on the road or insight into matches and feuds. I REALLY wanted more Horsemen tales - that had to be such an interesting life! Regardless, this still a great biography of a legendary wrestler, and one I did not know much about.
I have been patiently waiting for the release of this Graphic Novel and it did not disappoint.
I have honestly read between 30-40 Wrestling, boxing, and UFC biographies. If I had to pick one type of book other than Horror that I could read every day, it would be that.
This book was so beautifully written that I could easily compare it to Michael Bisping, Quitters Never Win: My Life in the UFC. If you read that book you feel like you are sitting down with Michael, and he is telling you his life story. It is the same thing with this book. It is like Arn Anderson is having a conversation with you by way of his biographer.
If you enjoy Young Rock, which I have only seen a few episodes of, the pages where he is talking to the Biographer is like the Rock talking to the Interviewer Randall Park at the beginning of the show.
The Art in this book is also outstanding as it takes you through when Arn was just born throughout his career, and you can really see how he truly has looked like he is 50 years old throughout his life.
Another thing is Arn never talks bad about anyone, which I think is rare in these types of Biographies.
I could not put this book down, so if you decide to pick it up, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Nice quick read. I gave this three stars because there wasn’t really anything in there I didn’t already know. I suppose I was going into this more like an actual novel and hoping for some good road stories. But the actual wrestling stories are few and far in between here. But alas I was always a fan of the enforcer so I’m not disappointed in adding it to my collection. I’ll keep it close to my old Arn Galoob figure.
I love this format for telling these stories about wrestlers! The art is great, and even though I thought I knew this story pretty well I still learned things about him...for instance, we share a birthday! I hope more folks tell their stories this way.
