TechWitch #5

Wicked Ways

Rate this book
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about the magical world, it’s that you never know what’s coming next. Monsters lurk in the dark, and even in the light, danger is never far away…

Maggie Lachlan has rolled with everything the magical world has thrown at her. She's training with a Fae warrior, honing her witchy powers, and navigating life as the girlfriend of tech god billionaire Damon Riley. Until a witch from England arrives to meet with the local Fae and new trouble begins to stir, revealing that some of the Fae view Maggie as a threat to be eliminated rather than an ally in the fight against demons.

Which means the last place Maggie should go is into the Fae realm. But to try to stop a witch bent on bending technology to his own dark purposes, she'll have to do just that. Worse, she'll have to take Damon—who doesn't have any magic to protect him—with her.

It's a race against the clock through a land where the ancient magic is more complex than any code and there are no new lives or save points. To find her way safely home, Maggie will have to embrace every scrap of magic she's learned and hope that it's enough….

Wicked Ways is the fifth book in the TechWitch series, exciting dark and sexy futuristic urban fantasy from RITA® Award nominated author M.J. Scott. This series has witches, demons, an ongoing relationship that will have an HEA, sexy times, and a lot of computer geeks. Felt fresher than the last one. Quite nice. But should have a sub-title of “Wicked Cliffhanger” for the ending.

Somewhat conflicted because while I loved the 2nd half and everything that happens in the Fae realm I was enraged by the reason they were there. It was stupid and dangerous and unnecessary and solely because of Damon's pride & arrogance. And pointless in the end anyway. Was also not expecting that little doozy of a hook in the epilogue either. Do we have a clue about Maggie's father?

I’d give this 2 1/2 stars, but I have liked the rest of the series. Really nothing happened in this book. The first half was quite slow and then the second half which seemed like it would have more action was contrived and then nothing happened in the end to move the story along. Hoping the next installment in the series has more substance.

When Damon needs to travel quickly across the world to try and capture Jack, they team enter the ways and get caught up in danger they could never have imagined.
